Brandon League gives Mariners a big trade chip
Brandon League has 45 saves and an All-Star appearance on his resume over the last two seasons.
But he doesn't have a contract beyond 2011, leading many to believe that he should -- and will -- be dealt before the trade deadline.

Bowden, a former MLB general manager and current analyst for ESPN, said there is no shortage of teams who could use a proven closer like League.
"You're sitting here in a market right now where closers have been a disaster and you've got so many contending teams right now that are experimenting in the ninth inning, which is no way to win," Bowden told "Bob and Groz" on Thursday. "Brandon League has been one of the better closers in the game. He's got tremendous value."
Bowden said Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik has received "a lot of phone calls" from teams inquiring about League. He suggested that Zduriencik has some reservations about trading League, but said he expects it to happen.
"I'll be honestly shocked and stunned and surprised if he's not moved by the deadline only because, look, the Mariners are rebuilding, and if he can get a young bat that can help the Mariners down the road, you've got to move the proven closer to get that," Bowden said.
Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby have more thoughts on trading League in the video below.
