Darrell Bevell on Matt Flynn's sore arm and more
Coach Pete Carroll announced Tuesday that Russell Wilson -- not Matt Flynn -- will be the starting quarterback Friday when the Seahawks travel to Kansas City for their third preseason game.
Flynn did not practice on Wednesday, a decision Carroll said was made to give the quarterback's arm a break.
"Matt has a little bit of soreness in his arm, but [the decision to start Wilson on Friday] has nothing to do with his arm, it has nothing to do with the throws or anything," Bevell told "Bob and Groz" on Thursday. "This is just part of the process that we decided to go through."
Bevell said Flynn didn't throw on Thursday, either, as the Seahawks conducted a walk-through in preparation for Friday's game.
Bevell didn't get specific on how much Flynn will play or at which point he'll enter the game, only that he'll follow Wilson.
A few more notes from Bevell's conversation with Bob Stelton, Dave Grosby and Dave Wyman:
• Bevell gave this noncommittal answer when asked whether running back Marshawn Lynch will see any more action in the preseason: "I think sometimes it's important just to get the carries, just a few carries to still get hit on a little bit. I don't know how much more we'll see him. Obviously, we know what he can do, but I think sometimes getting tackled fully to the ground is important at some times."
Lynch played the first quarter against Denver. He's been dealing with a tight lower back this week.
• When asked for a lesser-known player who has impressed him the most during training camp and the preseason, Bevell chose rookie right guard J.R. Sweezy, the converted defensive tackle who is running with the Seahawks' first-team offensive line. Bevell: "If you would see where he started the first day to where he is now, it's an impressive transformation and they've done a great job with him."
