4 reasons to spend fall and winter in Anacortes
SPONSORED –With the spectacular beauty of Fidalgo Island and its convenient, central location, visiting Anacortes during the beautiful summer months is a no-brainer. But as days start growing longer and temperatures cool, the charming port town brings even more to the table. In fact, with an exciting lineup of events in the coming months, there’s no better time than fall and winter to visit Anacortes.
Brewgrass! Nov. 3-4
If the name doesn’t tip you off, this is the place where bluegrass and brews meet. Now in its 13th year, Brewgrass! offers visitors a chance to experience delicious food and drink and an exciting bluegrass lineup. This year, three Anacortes establishments, H2O, the Rockfish Grill and the Brown Lantern Ale House will host six bluegrass performers.
“The appeal is that people can come into these three downtown businesses and enjoy an amazing offering of 51 microbrews and live bluegrass music, all within a two-block space in historic Anacortes,” said Rick Star, general manager of Anacortes Brewery/Rockfish Grill. “I’ve met some people who stumbled into Brewgrass! by accident and have returned. Brewgrass! not only has a following of ‘regulars,’ but it draws new people every year because of a revived national interest in this music among young people. It’s a great event!”
Bier in the Pier, Oct. 6-7
Speaking of brews (are you beginning to see a theme?), it’s the simple things in life that are often the most pleasurable. Such is the case when you combine some really good beer and cider with the picturesque backdrop of downtown Anacortes. Bier on the Pier is a highly anticipated annual event that has sold out for the past two years. Located at the Historic Port Warehouse overlooking the Guemes Channel, Bier on the Pier features over 35 breweries cideries from around Seattle, Portland and Anacortes. Come for delicious drinks, yummy foods, live music and a whole lot of fun. Day passes are $25-$30 each and can be purchased through Anacortes.org.
Vintage Market, Oct. 20-21
Vintage Market. With the previous installment last spring, autumn brings the anticipation of fall-inspired home décor, garden goods, antique and “upcycled” items perfect for your home — or as holiday gifts. This fall’s event, organized by the Northwest’s most talented curators, features a beautiful display of creativity and design. VIP shopping starts Friday evening, Oct. 20, and continues all day Saturday, Oct. 21. Located at 100 Commercial Drive in Anacortes, this event is the perfect way to spend a lazy autumn day in beautiful Anacortes.
Coastal Christmas, December 2017
It might be a little early to hear sleigh bells ring, but when it comes to the holidays, it’s never too soon to start planning. This year, make a point to fit the Anacortes Coastal Christmas into your busy schedule. With December dates still to-be-announced, Coastal Christmas is worth the wait. Featuring the most beloved yuletide sites, smells and activities – including free horse-drawn carriage rides, winter wonderland walks (complete with hot cocoa and s’mores), crab-pot Christmas trees and, of course, a visit (or two or five) from Santa, this yearly event is a can’t-miss part of your holiday schedule.
