A person died after he was shot in the chest near a homeless camp under the West Seattle Freeway in the SoDo neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

Seattle Police Department reported its officers responded to First and Spokane streets just before 5 a.m.

Officers gave first aid to the injured man arrived until medics arrived. The man, 31, was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he died late morning.

Police are searching the area for two possible suspects.

As officers investigated the camp behind police tape, a man screamed at them. Some officers surrounded a tent in the investigation.

The 31-year-old man is the third person killed near a homeless camp or near people living in an RV this year.

So far in 2017, officers have investigated 14 homicides in Seattle, not including two officer-involved shootings.

Tuesday’s shooting marks the second homicide in Seattle this month. Earlier in August, a person died in a shooting in South Seattle on the 700 block of South Charles Street.
