Dori Monson: This is one of the most entertaining political debates I’ve ever seen

A Republican primary debate in Idaho this week revealed their potential candidates for governor are a pretty interesting bunch.

Potential candidate Harley Brown laid out the voters’ choice as one between “a cowboy, a curmudgeon, a biker or a normal guy.”

Here’s some of what Brown had to say about himself at the debate: “I’m about as politically correct as your proverbial turd in a punch bowl, and I’m proud of it, and I’m going for it, and I’m going for the vote of the real people out there, not these bondage type people who don’t have clue about picking up strangers at night and hauling them God knows where.”

Potential candidate Walt Bayes also had some interesting ideas to share.

“Governor Otter, he hollers about the emissions and tried to make me take an emissions test, and I told them what to do with it,” said Bayes. “My wife drove three years without any license over it. Nobody done anything. But anyway, what I’m saying is, we’re wasting all kinds of wood out there, and they’re burning it and smogging this place up and it’s a bunch of garbage. They don’t know what they’re doing.”

After watching the highlights from the debate, KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson said he definitely wouldn’t be voting for the “normal guy,” either the biker or the curmudgeon would get his endorsement.

“Sad thing is either one of these guys would be better than any of the politicians we have running our region right now,” said Monson. “If only I lived in Idaho.”
