Question for you: If you’re at the store and you see someone you think is shoplifting, what do you do about it?

I’d probably inform somebody at the store, go talk to a manger, point out the person and be done with it.

Not so for this guy who filmed his confrontation with a woman he accused of shoplifting. The man has not been identified but this happened at a Walmart store reportedly in Washington state.

The man sees a woman who he believes is shoplifting and instead of talking to the store manager, he pulls out his cell phone, starts recording video, and confronts the woman.

But a lot of people are blasting the guy for how he handled it.

“You might want to think about your decision right now,” the man is heard saying in the video. “I don’t work for the store so I don’t have to follow Walmart’s policy for shoplifting. I’ll hold you down until you take everything out of your purse.”

He tells the woman to take everything out of her purse before he does something about it and follows her around as she tries to leave, all the while videotaping the exchange. The woman eventually exits the store, leaving the man with a social security card she gave him after he demanded her ID.

Is the guy a jerk? Is he over the line, or is he stepping up and doing what people should do?
