I’m a decent tipper when I go to restaurants. I’m not a great tipper and I’m not a horrible tipper. For good service, I give 20 percent.
The reason I’m bringing this up, KIRO TV asked a great question on their Facebook page on Monday. With this push for $15 an hour minimum wage, they asked if your waiter or waitress is making $15 an hour, would you tip the same or would you tip a lot less.
The reason we tip, it’s completely morphed from ensuring promptness, which is what it was, we’ll give you a nice gratuity if you give us great service. Now it’s just become yet another entitlement. Lately, it’s been well they only make minimum wage and they live off their tips.
Well, if they get the minimum wage bumped up to $15 an hour, will you still tip 20 percent or will you say, no they’re making plenty, they’re making the right amount for the job they do?
