SEATTLE – It’s the first day of Amazon’s takeover of Whole Foods grocery stores and they’re cutting prices on many of their items.

At Whole Foods stores around Western Washington, employees have been working overnight to turning what some people jokingly-called “Whole Paycheck” into a slightly different store with lower prices.

Employees at Whole Foods stores have been taking stock at all their stores while integrating Amazon’s fingerprints in their stores, such as their Amazon Lockers, and making Whole Foods food labels available on Amazon Prime.

Most anticipated are lower prices on things like produce to beef and fish, bananas and eggs.

It’s all part of Amazon’s $13.7 billion takeover of Whole Foods, as they attempt to make a quick transition, one an industry expert told us that surprised him.

“I think that it was something people had assumed was going to happen. But I think people were a little shocked it happened so soon,” said retail expert Matt Sargent with Frank N. Magid Associates,

Amazon is also promising other benefits as part of the takeover, including rewards for current Amazon Prime members, providing special savings and other in-store benefits

Shoppers can look for better deals on these items right away:

  • Whole Trade bananas
  • Organic avocados
  • Organic large brown eggs
  • Organic salmon and tilapia
  • Organic baby kale and baby lettuce
  • Animal-welfare-rated 85% lean ground beef
  •  Creamy and crunchy almond butter
  • Organic Gala and Fuji apples
  • Organic rotisserie chicken
  • 365 Everyday Value organic butter
