49ers fans once complained about Seahawks’ 12th Man, now they’re training to be like us

Everybody is getting ready for this Seahawks game against the San Francisco 49ers. With a win, the Seahawks secure the NFC West title, they also could wrap up a first-round playoff bye, and they are very close to wrapping up home field throughout the playoffs.

It’s a big deal for the Seahawks, because as you know, the Seahawks have one of the most dominant home-field advantages in NFL history, one of the most dominant home-field advantages in sports history.

The reason I mention all this is remember when the Seahawks played the 49ers up here, back in September? The crowd set an all-time noise record. It was quite a scene. And remember the 49er fans who wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper down in the Bay area, Rich and Judy?

They said that it’s too big an unfair advantage that the 49ers have in front of the Seahawks fans because we’re just too noisy. It’s unfair what we do to other teams.

I talked with Rich and Judy about that. I spoke with them about their being so upset that they started a petition to the NFL to get Seattle penalized for having fans so loud. Rich and Judy told us how unfair it was up here.

“Home-field advantage is a good thing everywhere. And it is, but I believe it doesn’t have to be with noise, it can be just with the support for the team. And of course every stadium has a certain noise level that people have, but the advantage with that noise level we feel is somewhat unfair,” said Rich.

Anyway, the reason I bring all this up is because a memo has now been circulating in San Francisco about training the 49er fans to be more like the Seattle 12th Man. What I’m told is this when out to 49ers season ticketholders.

Here is the memo:

So the 49ers are trying to train their fans to be more like the Seahawk fans. I just find it ironic that the 49ers fans were complaining about the crowd noise in Seattle, and meanwhile the 49ers are trying to encourage their fans to be more like the Seahawks fans, and to make life miserable for the other time on offense. What do you 49ers fans have to say about that?

Rich and Judy are on vacation and could not be reached for comment.
