Love a Washington wine? Show your support & buy direct
Buying a Washington wine on a whim at a grocery store is all good; wine producers would rather have you do that than choose beer or any other beverage.
But to really support a local winery, buy direct.
He says more than 40 percent of the cost of a wine sold in a grocery store can go to the store and the distributor.
With direct sales, the winery keeps ALL of the money.
The Wenatchee World spoke with WineEconomist.com blogger Mike Veseth, the Robert G. Albertson Professor of International Political Economy at the University of Puget Sound, who says direct sales "allow wineries to really tell their story," and bring home a larger share of the profit.
Find a local wine (or wines) you like, and join its wine club, if it offers one.
You'll often get the first shot at new and limited-release wines, discounts, early notification of winery events, and the red carpet treatment when you visit, among other benefits.
