Fair warning, kids

At Roscoe Nix Elementary in Silver Spring Maryland, Rodney Lynch, age 6, has been reprieved. But for a while he was in pretty big trouble.

On December 20th, six days after the shooting in Connecticut, he was, as he puts it, fooling around.

"I went into my desk, and I got scissors and I just pretended it was a gun," said Rodney.

That got him immediately sent to the office. He got his scolding, and went back to first grade class, but then he did it again, and finally another student, a little girl made a gun gesture at HIM and said "POW", he did it a third time.

"She did the pow sound and I just went like that! And then I got sent to the office again. I'm the one that gets suspended for just nothing," Rodney told a local news station.

The school argues it was Rodney who made the "pow" sound, and that he had been warned such things are inappropriate. That's why he was suspended the following day.

His parents are saying, come on, he's just a cute little kid.

"They're saying 'He threatened a student. He threatened to shoot a student.' He was just playing," said his dad.

His mom agreed, "I don't think the punishment fits the crime."

Rodney said his teacher even wanted to know what video games he played. Which come to think of it, would be interesting to know.

But good news for Rodney - the school system has decided to expunge his first grade rap sheet. This will not follow him for life, except for all the stories about him on the internet. It's just the price of living in a heavily armed nation - that what used to be cute, isn't anymore.

    DAVE -
Use of that picture is despicable.

In real life the kid had only his finger and scissors.

I think it's the price of living in a knee-jerk,hypersensitive, overeacting nation. The Sandy Hook massacre was not a common occurance- kids goof off all of the the time. He is only 6 years old and has very little or no understanding of what happened at Newtown.

    First of all....
Ron, I agree with you whole heartily but this is the Crusader for Common Sense don't you know and his wisdom trumps all, flawed as it usually is. Secondly, the school has no business asking what video games the kid is playing and if truly felt he was a treat contact his mother/Father and have them immediately come to the school and counsel both student/parents together. Oh! that's right, schools are nothing more than low income day care centers seems to me so the parents probably couldn't take the time to come and counsel with Rodney anyway. Anyway this is nothing more than Knee-jerk reaction from the school administration who couldn't teach common sense anymore than pigs can fly, let alone the basics of education the rest of the world seems to deem important. Here's the most likely equation (piss poor academic handling of the situation) + (piss poor parental involvement) = equals idiotic press coverage, I'm Just say'n.

white male children must be neutered early by their state re-educators
lest they grow up to become middle aged white men who may wax nostalgic for the days when America was in it's ascension and not in it's present decline. The liberal progressive dream cannot become reality as long as any white man retains any of the antiquated masculine notions of rugged individualism. Perhaps Obamacare can resolve the problem through chemical castration. Of course the above photo taken from AP files, represents the face of the enemy of liberal progressive ideals and is not the actual subject from the article who most likely is of a protected species.

    I agree Ronald
With Dave's use of the photo probably not connected to the actual case. However, I can't help but look at the kid in the photo's slobbering all over himself and face with the excitement of that gun in his hand. Similar to the adults that I served with when it was time to go to the shooting range and with other males in public who can't help but gleefully show of there new toy so they can feel 10ft tall instead of 4'11 like they really are.
