That lovable socialist liar

We think of politics as divisive, but if you look at what's been happening in the last few days, we are being offered a remarkable lesson in letting bygones be bygones.

Look at the former rivals of Mitt Romney -- like Michelle Bachmann, who once said:

"He's the only governor in the United States history to put into place socialized medicine."

And therefore couldn't possibly win.

And Newt Gingrich:

"Here's a Massachusetts moderate who has tax paid abortions in Romneycare, puts Planned Parenthood in Romneycare, appoints liberal judges to appease Democrats and wants the rest of us to believe somehow he's magically a conservative."

Gingrich even flat out called him a liar! And yet now Bachmann is on board:

"Of course I can support him, two words: Barack Obama," said Bachmann.

And Newt is on board even though he still believes Romney is a liar!

"The governor said things at times that weren't true. I also believe that compared to Barack Obama I would thrust Mitt Romney 100 times over."

And that right there is the key, throughout history humankind has always needed a way to get large groups to forget their differences and unite behind a cause. We've tried religion, tradition, patriotism -- but nothing is faster or more effective than FEAR.

And that means either finding or creating an enemy so terrifying that you will cheerfully embrace liars and even socialists as long as they're marching in the same direction.

"Two words: Barack Obama."

Let the show begin.

Maybe people are tired of the lies and socialism
of the current president. Mitt at least will be less damaging then what we have now. It is the usual problem; the lesser of two evils (rhetorically, I am not saying either is actually evil).

who was it on the left who was vocal about Obama?
Oh yeah Joe Biden... and Bill & Hillary Clinton. And then there was Jesse Jackson ... What happened to them anyway?

Truly, it doesn't matter what your name is or what you've done "before" to these people. Party loyalty is what decides it for both sides. It's us poor schmucks in the middle that get shafted.

We'll have to see how well that resonates between now and fall. At least the Republicans are offering a reasonable alternative, not some far right extremist. Thinking people will have two candidates to choose from. The most liberal people are disappointed with Obama because he hasn't been liberal enough, the most conservative people are disappointed that Romney won the Republican primaries because he isn't conservative enough.... with the current field of available candidates, that's about the best we can hope for (even if it ain't really all that much).

lefties-please give me your best answer to just three questions-Iknow this isn't exactly the topic
why does the left unconditionaly believe that "climate change" is caused by man, rather a periodic change that has happened over and over in the planets history? #2 Why do dems and lefties believe without question that Obama's health care plan (writen by Nancy pelosi) will work to decrease health care costs? #3why do dems and lefties not wonder to themselves if having more and more gov dependent people will not have long term ramifications, not weaken our society over time? #4 I said three questions-sorry-why don't dems/lefties question what welfare was done to black families? Is the elimination of a DAD they way to go? not just black families but generationly poor families. Come on lefties give me an answer so i can truly analyize the mind set of a straight ticket dem/lefty.

    Devin, they can't
The ideaology on the leftist whackeys is so engrained that they are incapable to think in a common sense way. They can't answer it honestly. They only care about the so called greater good and not individual rights to pursue our own happiness and make our own way. They have to rely on others and that's why we are in the entitlement generation. They know no other way and want to suck off the productive people who bust their butts to make a living and provide jobs. Well, the business community is speaking and they know Obamamama is against them in everyway. He hates businesses and successful people, it;s obvious! He needs to go away so we can get back the business of running they way it should be run, like a business not his piggy bank! We are getting fleeced by all levels of government and talk aobut lining corperations pockets, look no further than the people running this country. If we individuals did what they are doing to us, legal stealing, we would be thrown in jail. Maybe that's where they need to be.

delvin - I'm in the middle and i'll throw out my answers to those questions as best i can
First with Climate Change, the reason they believe that Climate change is man-made is because a bunch of scientists got together from all over the world and said it was... They are leaders in their fields and they said Climate change is partly man-made. Now the left believes this 100%, the Right for some reason disregards it entirely, and those of us in the Center believe basically, there's probably reason to suspect we're causing harm to the enviroment but who knows how much and more research needs to be done to fully understand what's going on... #2 - Can't really answer it, for all of the back and forth i honestly am not sure what is left of the presidents plan, and since i already have a Healthcare plan that i don't have to get off of, i haven't cared. I do agree that healthcare was long overdue for an overhaul though, you can't tell me it's right for people to work their whole lives only to spend the remainder of their fortune on the last couple years of their life because Med costs are absolutely insane... 75 dollars for Asprin? #3 - I don't think the Dem plan is for people to live off the Government, For all the talk on the Conservative side I don't think i've ever heard a Dem say "we want people on welfare" or we want people on government assistance. I think they have always championed Government assistance but i don't think they want people on it. Also, the question you asked is loaded, where is the evidence that Gov assistance has led to absolute gov dependence? Besides, we all pay into Social security, that has been in place for a very long time, are you saying we shouldn't have it? As far as welfare, i think there has to be a safety net for folks who end up unemployed... i do think the system should be designed however, to get people working again, not just become a longterm source of income... but be honest, would you be okay with a few million people instantly not having the means to survive? You'd be okay with streets filled with dead and starving people? There's a balance in there, there's a balance in everything. I would say there needs to be reform, but not elimination of Government programs that are intended to help the poor. #4 - What is your answer? Tell me, is the answer to simply cut them off? what if they legitimately cannot get a job? do we then allow people to starve and die? or conduct illegal activities to get money? There isn't a simple solution to every problem, having no heart and no soul and simply saying i'm cool with these folks starving isn't an answer in my opinion. Letting them live off the backs of hardworking Americans for long periods is not the answer either, again, we need an answer that both sides work together on to find a proper center... common ground... a solution that provides support to those who need it for short periods... at the same time it needs to be designed to get people working and supporting themselves it should not encourage them to stay unemployed.

Chuck - isn't it strange that the fringes hate so much?
What the Far right and the Far left don't understand is that America was built by those of us in the Center. While fools like Bill Law and others like him sit back and hate the other side and blurt out extremist ideas regarding the other party... the NORMAL center of America has been continuing on its path to try and keep both sides from destroying this country... not sure how it's lost on these idiots that if there were no left or no right we would be a communist country, a 1 party system... in other words... the Far right and Far left are essentially hoping for a communist America... the Far right and Far left are Anti-Democratic... they are the worst thing for the United States of America and they don't even get it.

If Bill Clinton can do ads for Obama,
after all HIS bitterness, then anything is possible - and believable. Of course Romney WAS a snake, a liar and the devil himself. The key word is 'WAS'. .. you know, like Obama WAS going to close Gitmo and have us out of Afghanistan 2 years ago. ................ For your reading, Dave, get that book from a couple of years ago - I think 'A Team of Rivals' about Lincoln's cabinet. All had called Lincoln a liar (and a lot worse), but they worked together and that little disagreement with our southern cousins was successfully solved. ......... For all the bitterness we may conceive in politics these days, accord usually happens. .. Now if we could just bring back civility BETWEEN parties.

A 90,000 job per month shortfall IS better than nothing, but only IF no one was quitting the labor force. ......... Ron - The economy hasn't recovered from the collapse it suffered under Bush's watch
The thing i think right wingers have trouble understanding is, I don't think Obama is blaming the latest jobs reports etc. on Bush or any previous administration, he has noted that the reason we're not humming along at pre-2008 numbers is because of the economic collapse, i know you people are trying to act like it never happened so you can play the blame game on Obama but you're wrong... The economy was destroyed in 08, recovering from a recession does not happen overnight and i don't care WHO you have in office, that's the truth, that's flat out lessons learned from history, The economy shows signs of growing now though, whether you like to admit it or not... if you'd like to argue who would better lead us out of the recession, that's fine, that's an argument worth having... but saying the economy is still in recession or still going down is a bunch of crap.

The unemployment rate is calculated by analyzing the number of people looking for work vs those employed.

The number of jobs created (115,000) has nothing to do with the number of people looking for them. BLS is measuring job growth.
