Obama's stand on gay marriage IS NOW FULLY EVOLVED!

The president's stand on gay marriage is now fully evolved! After languishing in the primordial ooze for several years, it learned to walk on all fours, and finally stood upright.

And the consensus seems to be this ranks somewhere between the Pope apologizing to Galileo and FDR popularizing the hot dog. But let's remember, he also said he doesn't think this is a federal issue.

"I continue to believe this is an issue that is going to be worked out at the local level," said Obama.

And he doesn't condemn well-meaning people who see it differently.

"Many of them are not coming at it from mean-spirited perspective, a bunch of them are friends of mine."

In short, he was simply expressing a personal belief.

"For me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm."

It's just your personal belief. We get it. But what we really want to know from our politicians is, how much more freedom are you planning to take away from us? Which is why this debate is so strange. Because this is the one issue that's become controversial because people think it expands freedom too much!

So I'll be curious to see if any other politicians evolve. Like those politicians who consider the government unfit to control health care, but who think it is fit to control consensual human love.

As was pointed out by several commentators, North Carolina is a state that will let you marry your heterosexual first cousin and have kids together, but which prohibits a non-reproductive marriage with your gay cousin.

A position like that is not only not evolved, it's not even Intelligently Designed!

Chuck - you aren't alone buddy
Chuck, It's amazing how testy these "conservative" folks are. They try to act like they're defending themselves by being anti-gay but in the process they stomp on the very things they claim to hold dear.... First, I'm hearing them call you communist, yet they're the ones calling for a 1 party system where only Conservative viewpoints are held. That sounds like communism to me. Then they're saying you're for tearing down American Traditions, well isn't the tradition of individual freedom pretty important? We champion our freedom to the world, but we're going to tell people that what they do in their bedroom is not okay and they don't have the right to pursue happiness because we don't like how they live their lives? SERIOUSLY!? How can you be pro-freedom and stand against this? I mean, I'm Christian, i follow by Christs examples as best i can. I don't agree with the Homosexual lifestyle, but i also don't agree with Jews, muslims, Mormons, Johova witnesses, Catholics etc. it doesn't mean i have the right to tell them they can't practice their religion in this country so long as they do not infringe on anyone elses rights and freedoms... So please can somebody come up with a coherent argument as to why Gays shouldn't be able to get married in America?

    Cbrew....conservatives aren't "testy", bigoted, etc...
although some people who claim to be conservative can be observed behaving so. (As can some people who claim to be liberal). They sure don't represent the vast majority of the right wing. It's amazing what one can learn from civil discussion among people with diverse opinions. Those who seem to start calling names immediately must have some motivation for derailing civil discussion. I wonder if it's because they are actually afraid that somebody, somewhere, just might learn something? Perhaps the name callers (from either side) feel that their agenda is best promoted among folks who aren't all that smart?

Chuck - I agree not all Conservatives are Testy, or Bigoted
Heck, i used to agree with the majority of what Conservatives thought back in the late 80's early 90's etc. The party had a lot going for it, a lot of respect throughout the country, but now, too often they allow the fringes of their party to spout ignorant ideas and even have adopted more radical right ideas that have no hope of ever becoming law... they've driven their party so far right they appear to only spread hate and fear now... It's sad really, they want to Govern with their fear and be opposed to anything the other side has to offer, politicians used to be judged based on how well they could work with the other side of the aisle and how well they could get others to compromise... now at least with Conservatives, the last few years, they're being judged by their constituents on how well they refuse to work in a Democracy... how big a wrench they throw into the system... how well they stamp their feet and cry like little kids refusing to help this country while it degrades around them... I am very upset with the Conservative party... i think the last time i respected that party was when George Bush SR. was President.

Cbrew, that would be the republican party of Ronald Reagan.
But no party has ever lived up to the ideals of their greatest leaders. ... Used to be that Reagan and Tip O'Neil (demo House Speaker) could argue all day and then sit down to a friendly dinner after 6. .. Try that now with either party. It is the lack of civility that forecloses and compromise on almost any issue these days. .. And, yes, I plead guilty myself, though I try not to. ... But can you imagine that if this - or any subject - were approached with more civility, we wouldn't all be wasting our retirement in cyber space on MYNW>

I have a theory but It's just a theory... Prior to 9/11 and the hotly contested Presidential election between GWB and Gore, it seemed like most folks didn't follow politics all that closely, most people just believed that the Govt was doing it's thing and we could all simply go on with our lives and vote every so often and all was well... then all of a sudden, there's a supreme court ruling on who won the Presidential Election... some felt cheated etc, so a little more focus was brought on the system... then 9/11 happened, and suddenly i think the American people felt betrayed by their Government... everyone felt like we left our Government alone and expected it to perform it's duties and protect us and that trust was broken. Now people follow the political process very closely and are VERY focused on what happens in Washington.. everyone seems suprised by how crooked politics can get but that's what's been going on... I pray for the day when all is well again, we can all trust that our Government is looking out for us and we can go back to our lives... paying attention to politics when it's time to vote ya know? I agree with ya though, the Repubs of Regan and first Bush era were a very strong group, with good ideas and they compromised and called out the Dems when they refused to work with them... was a good Era ya know?

OR perhaps they're all tuning into a very important episode of the hate monger Rush Limbaugh or another one of the talking heads so they can get more one liners and come back... Nothing a bunch of idiots in a mob love more than a rabble rouser with a big mouth...

Those stupid conservatives are stupid because they don't think like us. The 32 states that voted against gay marriage are hateful. They probably say the N word. Conservatives need to be more tolerant towards people with other views. Condi Rice is aunt Jemima. I love misogynists like Keith Olbermann and Bill Maher. Gay jokes about Marcus Bachman are funny but if you joke about Barney Franks gay prostitution ring then your a racist homophobe. CBrew, come on over for Zima, Cher and back rubs. It's a celebration!!!

The Chuckster - Do you always work in extremes?
Do you really believe that's what i'm saying? I don't think everybody that thinks differently than me is stupid... I believe heavily in the rights of people and their freedom of speech, but i don't have to agree with them. If a state votes against Gay marriage then fine, that's the right of the people. I happen to believe that it's not my right to tell another person how to live. That's how i see this position, does it mean i hate people that don't see it my way, nope that's for people like you.

    Conservatives
Are bitter, they cling to their guns and bibles. We need to focus on Romneys high school antics and not pay any attention to vetting the president . 3 times many people quit looking for work that got jobs last month and we need to get the lemmings talking about something else. Gay marriage and Romneys teen age years should do the trick.

Are you trying to be a right wing radio host or something? You think doing these little posts trying to speak for people you disagree with by making snide remarks that they would never agree with, putting words in other people's mouths and revising people's beliefs to fit the things you hate makes you intelligent? You're the most foolish person on this blog, to top that off, you don't even grasp the general ideas that people are posting in this blog that you're trying to make fun of... I'm serious when i ask this question, did you actually graduate highschool? you sound so ignorant right now...

Do you have post Nov. 9 plans after your party loses? because seriously, i'm tellin you, odds are Obama will be re-elected. the Polls are fairly close right now but they were when Bush and Kerry were goin at it too... Americans generally re-elect the encumbent.. Take a walk down memory lane if you don't believe me... Bush Sr. was the last President to not achieve two terms... It's actually kind of rare to see a president not go 2 terms... so get used to it, and just a hint... maybe you should start giving up your hateful ways... Liberals went through 8 years of Bush, you all accused the Libs of whining... now it's your turn and you're whining louder than they were... have some class... lose with at least a semblence of self respect.

I thought I was having a nuanced conversation with a like minded committed left winger who hate stupid conservatives. Seattle D says it best, they are republitards. They want to talk about the economy and job loss. We want to talk about gay marriage and Romneys teen age years. Your breaking the liberal on liberal violence and I am going to report you for abuse if this continues.

    MarriageĀ®?
I never knew that marriage was a Christian concept and that God, Jesus, et al. owned the exclusive rights to its distribution.

Since that seems to be the case, we should probably go ahead and outlaw Hindu, Jewish, and all other weddings not affiliated with whichever division of Christianity wins the First Annual Tug-Of-War for Jesus' America.
