Pat Cashman confirms local comedy is back

We have some the worst traffic in the U.S., we're one of the only areas not setting heat records, and we have a billionaire trying to build a new arena. We just need a TV show to make fun of everything that makes the greater Seattle area so special.

Former star of Almost Live! Pat Cashman tells Dave and Luke he has the answer. The 'band' got back together, but under a new name: The 206.

"We briefly debated calling it 'Definitely not The 509.'"

With a web presence and a chance to take the show in front of a live audience, Cashman predicts and hopes The 206 will be bigger than Almost Live! ever was.

And Almost was pretty big. If you count the reruns, the show was on TV for 28 years.

Cashman is aware that this time around the competition is a little more fierce. Just search 'parody' or 'Seattle' or 'dog dressed as a woman' on YouTube and there's no shortage of comedy available. Not only that, but cable offerings have at least doubled since the show went off the air in 1999.

It's not just the technology and medium that have changed, but the Puget Sound is much different. Stereotypes have evolved.

"The demographics and the neighborhoods were stereotypes when we were talking about it. None of it was really so," Cashman says. "Lynwood isn't necessarily a place with bigger hair than any other place. Ballard wasn't entirely populated by older people driving 8mph."

No word if Cashman and the crew will be taking notes at Kent Cornucopia Days this weekend.

Cashman wouldn't get into details about when and where the show will air because they're in the middle of negotiations. He's aware that it's a lame TV show response, but it's true.

However, he did say they have done a few shoots already and more are scheduled. He predicts they'll have a completed pilot very soon.

In the meanwhile, you can keep up with The 206 on Facebook and they're taking your comments and suggestions on Twitter.

So far, Cashman and the crew are pleased with the reaction.

"(It) been very encouraging and a little bit surprising."

I have never laughed as hard as I did when you played the sound of a car slamming on the breaks followed by a scream from James Brown. Glad you and John are back.

I sure hope they bring back the "wall of bangs". Wait, I'm betting they come after the 253 and the 360 for having the the only thing propping up the economy in our areas -- Meth labs!
