Whining about working on Thanksgiving

A Target employee is trying to start a petition after learning she might have to work on Thanksgiving as the company launches its Black Friday promotion hours before Friday.

Apparently she'd rather spend the time with her family on the holiday. Well, then maybe you shouldn't work for Target because isn't it a company's right to meet the demands of its customers?

If you don't like it, work somewhere else. Not only that, but as an employee in your teens and 20's, shouldn't you expect to pay your dues with the crappy shifts?

Don't whine to Dori about this. The man has worked his fair share of holidays and weekends. In fact, don't whine to anyone in the media about working a holiday.

Why would you expect anything else?
I've managed alot of young folks at a number of different jobs. I had a teenage cashier at a resturant refuse to do any cleaning duties because " We have a maid who does that stuff at home!" She didn't last long. Many students come summertime expect to work 40 hours a week all summer, except " I sleep in to 11 or noon, don't work weekends or friday night and want to be off by 5pm" Now I have dealt with a few "helicopter parents" trying to affect my workplace whilst micro managing the lives of thier 20 something adult children. This society of weenies and the sense of entitlement without earning it we've cooked up for ourselves will backfire and it won't be pretty when the strong teach these folks what a victim really is.

    Ditto the salt chucker..
I too have had much experience with managing the younger generation.. Most want the 40 hour pay so long as they can work 4 hours a day with week ends off. I disagree with Targe' and their Turkey day opening....but that is their prerogative. Hopefully they will do no business and not have the need to open on this day in the future. In the mean time, suck it up and get it done, or quit and find another gig. Life sucks sometimes....You work for somebody, that means they make the rules. If you want to change that, that means you need to put yourself into a position to either make the rules or have a say. To do that...work your butt off and be better then the next guy...which today isn't really that hard....or just be the victim. But since being a victim is all the rage....I know where most will fall.

    Generation "E"..
The Entitlement generation. Formally known as Spoiled Brats. Most born in the late 80's/early 90's during the good times and always believed that other people worked and someone was going to take care of things for them and pay their cell phone bill. I have always believed that in modern times, every person just past the 10th grade should have to spend 6 months working at McDonalds.

    T Day work
I think the whole black Friday deal is out of hand. why not start Halloween night once the tricker treaters are done or the 5th of July? Because the holidays are all about gifts and what you get right? As far as whining about having to work it though here is a little perspective. My son has been in Afghanistan the 2. He turned 21 in country last year. He would say suck it up butter cup and drive on!

Is a holiday too much to ask?
While I agree that companies have the prerogative to set their hours, I can't believe no one is standing up for having 1 honest-to-goodness American holiday where only 1st responders and hospital workers have to work and people can enjoy their families (or not). The same people who'll be there at 9pm to trample each other for door-busters would be there at 5am if that was the opening time. And why does everything have to be political? Perhaps the person "whining" didn't vote for Obama and just wants to celebrate family values.
