Dori: Al Gore is a hypocrite for selling Current TV to Al Jazeera

Current TV is now Al Jazeera America after environmental activist and former Vice President Al Gore sold his network to the oil-rich government of Qatar.

Dori has long disapproved of Al Gore, but now he's calling the former Vice President a hypocrite.

The deal, made official Thursday Jan. 3, was reportedly rushed at the end of 2012 to avoid the higher tax rate that would kick in this tax season.

"So Al Gore, who's born rich, has lived rich his whole life, and now has become almost a billionaire by being the ultimate government insider scam artist," said Dori, "But according to the New York Times he was trying to rush the sale of Current TV so he could avoid paying higher taxes."

According to experts, beating the tax deadline would have saved Gore $9 million in taxes since the capital gains tax has gone up from 13 percent to 23.5 percent as a result of negotiations in Washington, D.C.

But just two months ago the former Vice President was quoted, saying that the very rich should pay more taxes.

"The single most popular proposal we had was to reduce taxes on working people and to lift the higher rate," said Gore in an interview with Reuters on Nov. 14. "Let's give an incentive to work, and let's ask the most fortunate in our society - including me and you - to do our fair share."

Insiders say that Current TV was sold for about $500 million and that $100 million will go directly to Gore, who has a 20 percent stake in the network.

But Dori says it's not just the fact that Al Gore tried to evade taxes by rushing a deal that makes Dori think this deal is deplorable; Al Jazeera is financed by the ruling family of Qatar, which is paying for the network with profits from oil sales.

"Al Jazeera is financed by big oil worldwide. So he stands around and talks about the evils of global warming and how horrible carbon emissions are," said Dori. "But he thinks nothing to sell his network to the highest bidder when that network is completely financed by Arab oil."

The new owners of Current TV are already facing backlash from some of its former carriers.

Shortly after the deal was made official, Time Warner Cable dropped Current TV from their listings, defeating the supposed purpose of the acquisition, which was to gain access to a wider English-speaking audience.

However, the network will continue its operations under its new name, Al Jazeera America, on DirecTV, Comcast, Dish, Verizon and AT&T.

Please tell us what Terrorists bought the network and why Dori did not point out that the Royal Family of Qatar are Terrorists.FYI Gore only owned 20% Comcast also owned 20%,so it was not in Gores power to accept or reject any offer.

Al Jazeera may not be "American" but...
they sure can write amazing stories way before American tv can, I am constantly amazed by the quality and depth of their journalism. Beside's ya, gotta love someone who's hated by all sides. As for Al Gore, yeah - umm, at least he doesn't have a tv channel anymore :)

    Al Gore
    1) Does the selling of Current automatically place Mr. Gore in a lower tax bracket, by which he will pay lower taxes on his income? 2) Is it even remotely possible that since he is only a 20% holder he had to go along with the decision of the 80% majority? 3) Since Al Jazeera (I have never seen it) supposedly looks at events and news from an Arab world perspective, and is based in the Arab world, exactly what parts of the Arab economy are not affected and influenced by oil money?

    Well actually
Dori is only partially correct, Al Gore may have tried to save money on taxes, but Al Jazeera is not financed by big oil. They are a for-profit news corporation (like, Fox News Corp from Australia) and they make their money from adverting and superscription services. They have no connection to big oil, except for the the fact that they are from the middle east, which sort makes Dori's claim a tad bit racists. It's like saying Fox is subsidized by the sale of Kangaroos.

Al Jazeera is Arab news and yes it is owned by the state of Qatar. So what? It is constantly under fire by the same state for reporting against itself. Something you should consider doing.

Dori is wrong. Again. go to http://www.aljazeera.com and make up your own minds.
Al Jazeera has been sighted over and over again as more investigative, informative and truthful than US counterparts. US media like KIRO and FOX wholeheartedly supports favored political party organisations. Al Jazeera is constantly under fire for doing the opposite.

    Dori is an idiot
And anyone who takes Dori serious is an idiot as well. There is nothing inconsistent with believing in higher taxes on the wealthy and minimizing the amount of taxes that one pays within the limits of the law. Warren Buffet, Democrat by the way, like most intelligent people at this point in American History, minimizes his taxable profile and yet is in favor of higher taxes on the wealthy. Only idiots voluntarily pay higher taxes than they need to. Since Dori is an idiot I guess this is what he thinks others should do.

Dori is no idiot - it all comes down to subject matter and belief.
Socrates, also a smart man with a reputation for going against the grain, but he also believed that the world was supported on the back of a huge turtle and was exicuted for questioning the idea of Zeus living as a god on Mt Olympus.
