Video: South Dakota Madison High School wrestler hit by falling spotlight

In the middle of a wrestling match one wrestler was taken out by a falling spotlight. Michael McComish, a senior at Madison High School in South Dakota, was crouching down when the spotlight broke loose from the ceiling and crashed down on top of him.

Dori thinks Michael was unbelievably lucky to have walked away from the accident alive.

    Just An Observation........
    1. Are they wrestling in a cocktail lounge? I wrestled in school and we did it in the gymnasium with all the lights on. No way for any hanky panky.

    2. Christ all mighty sounds REALLY COOL when it is slowed waaaaaaay down.

    3. Holy Snockers sounds WAY COOLER!!

    It's legit
I have had three sons wrestle in high school. Sometimes the lights are on and sometimes they use and overhead light such as the one shown. Depends on the school (dollars in athletic fund) and depends on the event - is it a ranked match, etc. As far as leaving the lights on stop hanky panky, usualy the only people in the stands are the parents of the wrestlers and a couple of thier friends. Wrestling is not a big draw in high school for the girls. :)

That is an odd lighting setup
What is the purpose of that lighting arrangement?

Looks like that fixture doesn't weigh a lot and it hit him dead center. If it had landed off center I think the injury would have been much worse.

    The spotlight
is usually used in Varsity matches. It brings more excitement, as well as focusing the crowds attention.
