Spouses battle over music choices

A disagreement over music choice apparently got way out of hand for a couple in South Carolina. Are there any songs you love that your partner hates? (AP Photo/file)

Authorities say a South Carolina woman stabbed her boyfriend after getting fed up with him listening to the Eagles.

Is there music that you listen to that drives your spouse, or your boyfriend, or girlfriend, or your partner crazy? Or is there music that they listen to that absolutely drives you insane?

My wife’s all time favorite song is one of my all-time least favorite songs. “American Pie,” that is my wife’s all time favorite song, and that’s a fingernails on the chalkboard song for me.

I love some she can’t stand, too. On a nice summer day, there’s nothing I like better than laying out on my deck, we’ve got speakers out on the deck, and I will inevitably be listening to Bob Marley.

I will put Bob Marley’s “Legend” on and my wife, Suzanne, hates it. She despises it. This drives my wife crazy.

It appears to be a common issue among couples. Here are a few musical conflicts listeners had to share:

Lori in Shoreline says…

I had a crush on a guy until I found out he listened to Cat Stevens all the time. I can’t stand that depressing, dirgy music. It seems to be making a comeback unfortunately.

Rich in Olympia says…

The music that drives my wife nuts that I absolutely love is Supertramp. I’ve loved them since I was introduced to the unique style of light-progressive rock back in middle school. I’ve had to fight the uphill battle alone to convince the world they’re one of the best bands of all time.

Mike in Puyallup says…

My wife listens to a lot of MC Hammer and Alicia Keys. We went on a trip and I had to hear it the whole way because she wears the pants.

Jennifer in North Bend says…

My husband thinks that Eddie Van Halen walks on water. So it gets very annoying after a while. Van Halen was the first rock and roll band he ever heard.

Bottom line is apparently you don’t have to be musically compatible to be in love with somebody.
