Am I the only person OK with a government shutdown?

Dori says if the government shutdown means no money will be spent on roboquirrels, he's all for it. (AP)

Am I the only person who doesn't mind the concept of a government shutdown?

The essential stuff is still going to happen. We're still going to have the military, our border control agents, our air traffic controllers, the FBI, TSA, those are all essential jobs. They're just going to stop the nonessential jobs.

In my mind, if the job isn't essential, it shouldn't exist. I don't care about a government shutdown of nonessential jobs.

I've got a list of some of the things the federal government has spent money on in the last year.

Does a government shutdown mean they're not going to be able to spend $27 million on Moroccan pottery classes now? That was a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Does it mean that as of 9 o'clock PST, they're not going to be able to spend $300,000 on efforts to promote caviar consumption and production?

Does that mean the National Science Foundation will not be able to spend $325,000 to build a robotic squirrel cleverly named RoboSquirrel, so they could study how snakes attack squirrels?

And does it mean that our federal government, as of 9 o'clock tonight, will not be able to spend $505,000 promoting specialty shampoo and other beauty products for cats and dogs?

Because those are a few of the things we've been spending money on in the last year. A few of the tens of thousands of things.

So when they say they're going to shut down everything except the essential part of government, I say let's shut down everything except the essential part of government permanently.
