For some reason Dave Ross listeners weren't huge fans of Dori back in the day. Thus Dori Monson was the first winner of what became known as the Dori Awards.(KIRO Radio/file)

Today it is the 19th annual Dori Awards where you will pick the most annoying person of 2013.

People say, isn’t awfully vain to name the award after you. But the way it all originated is when I got this talk show 19 years ago, I was just a kid. I was 33 years old. I had never hosted a talk show before. I had no clue what I was doing.

And apparently I really, really annoyed the KIRO listening audience. Because in my time slot, the two people before me was Dave Ross, and apparently my worldview is slightly different than Dave. So everybody who was used to listening to Dave noon to 3, they got a little jolt. So the Dave Ross listeners didn’t like me. And before him, Jim French was in this time slot. His listeners didn’t like me. They all considered me the most annoying person they’d ever heard on the radio.

So the first year that I held the awards, I won. I won what is now known as the Dori Awards, overwhelmingly. How I held onto this job through that first year is beyond me.

So anyway that is how it all came about. Now we’re taking nominations for the 2013 Dori Awards. Who do you think is the most annoying person in 2013?. Tell us in the comments. Give us someone annoying at the local and national level. And I am not eligible because I’ve already won.
