My Kentucky Derby pick

It’s the fastest two minutes in sports – the Kentucky Derby is Saturday.
This is always an incredibly difficult race to handicap. This year is no exception with 20 horses in the field. The favorite will likely be California Chrome – and he’s a deserving favorite. But there is absolutely no value betting a 5-2 shot in a race like this. In the last 34 years, only five favorites have won the Derby.
And so we hunt for value. In a race with 20 horses, I like to look for 2-3 picks with great odds and play them evenly to win. So here we go.
#4 Danza (10-1 morning line) A shocking 41-1 winner of the Arkansas Derby. Downside is that trainer Todd Pletcher has been terrible in the Kentucky Derby.
#6 Samraat (15-1) Has won five of six starts. Great value.
#19 Ride On Curlin (15-1) Calvin Borel is the jockey and he is incredible in the Derby with three wins. This is my top pick.
So I will play all three of those to win – it gives me a three-horse entry at about 5-1 odds.
I’ll see you at the winners window!
