Great news gang, we’re number four. Washington has the fourth highest gas price in the country. As of Monday morning, we just went above $4 a gallon.

Hawaii always used to be $1.50 higher than here or more. Hawaii is just 34 cents higher than us now. Hawaii is the highest in the country. Alaska is still higher than us, and California. But with all of those smog emission reduction requirements that Jay Inslee is looking into now for our state, those are the only three states higher than Washington.

AAA reports the average price of a gallon of regular gas in Washington is now $4. That’s up 2 cents in a week and 9 cents in the past month. The price is 20 cents higher than a year ago, and 32 cents higher than the current national average.

Bellingham has the highest average in the state at $4.10. Prices in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area are averaging $4.06. Spokane has the lowest average in the AAA survey at $3.78.

This is really starting to strangle people. Plus, I went to the grocery store, I did a lot of barbecuing this weekend. Have you noticed meat prices? Oh my goodness, steak, ground beef, everything, it’s just through the roof.

Inflation is a tax on all of us and I’m guessing we’re going to see runaway inflation. You combine one of the highest gas prices in the nation, what’s happening with food prices, which is going on nationally, then with the inflation that’s coming to Seattle – we’re already seeing with the $15 an hour – we are going to see a massive erosion of people’s buying power.

And we’ve got people in charge who aren’t going to rest until we’re number one.
