I have no way to explain what is going down this afternoon. There is a very curious confluence of events here in Seattle this Monday.

There is an amalgamation of news stories and events that have come together in a way that can’t be explained rationally. I think Kevin Costner characterized events like this best in a statement in “Field of Dreams.”

“There comes a time when all the cosmic tumblers have clicked into place and the universe opens itself up for a few seconds to show you what is possible,” he said.

All the cosmic tumblers have fallen into place here in Seattle this Monday.

First, the Seattle City Council is meeting Monday to ban Columbus Day in favor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

What other events are happening on this same day the Seattle City Council is changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day? Well, the Seattle Seahawks are playing on Monday Night Football against the Washington Redskins.

That is quite a coincidence isn’t it? But that’s only two bits of coincidence. You would need a third for this truly to enter the realm of the freaky. And we have it.

On Sunday night, Paul Revere, the founder of Paul Revere and the Raiders died at the age of 76. And what was their most famous song? “Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian).”

I don’t know about you, but I just got a chill running down my spine.

So all coming together at one time, the Seahawks are playing the Redskins, the Seattle City Council is voting for Indigenous People Day and the “Indian Reservation” singer has died.

You can call it a coincidence. But I believe that here in Seattle we have finally entered…the PC Zone.

Correction Oct. 6: An earlier version of this report falsely identified the song as “Cherokee Nation.” The correct name of the song is “Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian).”
