On Monday, the Senate approved a $15 billion transportation revenue package, which will include a three-year, incremental gas tax increase of 11.7 cents. The bill that would implement the tax increase is headed to the House.

The same day, Lt. Gov. Brad Owen said he will not enforce a Senate super-majority rule that makes it more difficult to raise taxes.

I’m so sick of all of these Republicans who were elected to put some tax restraint in Olympia, and now they’re caving in on the gas tax. I think the Republicans – every one of them – should be voted out, because they’re not doing their job that they were elected to do.

We already have the seventh highest gas tax in the nation – 55.9 cents a gallon. Once [the transportation package] passes, we will have the second highest gas tax in the country.

Then, on top of that with cap and trade, which will be felt at the pump in part, we’ve seen estimates from anywhere from 25 cents a gallon to $1.33 a gallon in added taxes. We could see $5 per-gallon gas coming into this state, unless the Republicans stands strong. But they’re not showing any signs of doing that.

The Democrats, I expect this from them, they’re all tax increase people. They’ve never seen a tax they don’t like.

Any Republican who votes for these tax increases: I will do everything in my power to make sure everybody knows which republicans have stood for the tax increase – have stood against the people – because the Republicans were given a majority to put restraint on taxation in our state.

The Democrats are doing what Democrats do. I’m sick of that, but there’s not a lot you can do about that.

But the people in of this state handed the Republicans the majority. And the Republicans raising taxes, every single one of them who stands for a tax increase, should be voted out of office.

I will make certain everybody knows which Republicans stand in favor of tax increases, because they are not doing the will of the people – or the job of the people – down in Olympia.
