She may have won the award for best goalkeeper at the World Cup, but Hope Solo isn’t getting any love from the Commander in Chief.
According to TMZ, President Barack Obama didn’t acknowledge goalie Hope Solo at a ceremony Tuesday honoring the gold medal winning US Women’s soccer team.
The World Cup squad gathered at the White House, with Obama calling out several players by name, including Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd, Sydney Leroux, Becky Sauerbrunn, Megan Rapinoe and Heather O’Reilly, TMZ reported.
Solo, a Kirkland resident who plays with the Seattle Reign FC, is currently facing criminal charges for domestic assault against her half-sister and nephew in 2014. Solo has denied the allegations.
Obama did cause a little controversy, though, saying the team taught the world that “playing like a girl means you’re a bad ass.” Of course, he almost immediately followed up by acknowledging that “perhaps I shouldn’t have used that phrase.”
