Aaron Reardon has been asked to step down, and should
"The council was unanimous in asking him to step aside," Snohomish County Councilmember Dave Somers told 97.3 KIRO FM's Dori Monson Show.
Currently, the Washington State Patrol is investigating how Reardon spent county money and time during an alleged six-year affair.
The woman behind the alleged affair, Tamara Dutton, previously told KING 5 their secret was making her feel unsafe.
"It had gotten to the point I was being followed. I had people showing up at my kids' school. I was getting all kinds of cryptic emails," said Dutton.
She says Reardon used county funds on trips for the couple. Which is the problem that has fellow councilmember Somers so concerned.
"The affair is one thing - unpleasant, distasteful; but using public dollars for that purpose and the information about using public resources for campaigning ..." said Somers. "I mean, we're all elected officials and you know, you don't do that. It's the violation of public trust, and it's illegal. So that's why they took it to the prosecuting attorney's office who then looked at the information and talked to Ms. Dutton and decided to moved over to the State Patrol."
Somers says the council's unanimous recommendation should hopefully make Reardon's next move obvious.
"He just really needs step back, and I hope that becomes clear to him."
