Dori Monson

A blast from the radio past

Casey McNerthney knew there was a cassette that his mom had made when he called into a sports talk radio show in 1990. When he went home a few weekends ago, he was determined to find it. Among old photos and memorabilia, there it was - the time he called into a radio show and talked to Dori Monson.

Nowadays McNerthney works the crime beat at the SeattlePI.com. Back then, he was a wide-eyed kid straight out of central casting.

It took him a few days to get up the courage to listen to the tape, even though when he was 9, he listened to it over and over again. Present day, he was worried he might find it a little embarrassing. But he worked up the courage, found himself smiling back on the memory, and created a CD copy that he mailed to Dori Monson.

Dori found himself just as nervous, so the first time he listened to the audio was when McNerthney joined him on 97.3 KIRO FM's Dori Monson Show.
