"I was Born in Salt Lake City, March 27th 1953. I died of Throat Cancer on July 10th 2012."
So begins the obituary that Val Patterson wrote for himself and appears in the Salt Lake Tribune.
He describes a really fun-sounding life ... and then he starts to confess.
"I AM the guy who stole the safe from the Motor View Drive Inn back in June, 1971. … To that really mean Park Ranger … it was me that rolled those rocks into your geyser and ruined it. … I really am NOT a PhD. ... I didn't even graduate ... I never did learn what the letters "PhD" even stood for."
He also includes a beautiful tribute to his wife Mary Jane who, by the way, says his confessions are all true.
Patterson's final advice: "If you want to live forever, then don't stop breathing, like I did."
There's some pretty damn good life philosophy in there, too. Along with the fraud.
