Left Left & Center Left

I’m not a fan of Patton Oswalt, but I have the utmost respect for his decision to take a leave of absence from the interwebs. I find myself jealous of both he and Luke for their abilities to disconnect more often and experience life in real time instead of via text on a screen. I’m in a place in life where I’m actually required to spend more time than usual on Twitter and Facebook and blogs and such, and it is definitely taking a toll on me. I’ve got two young kids who need a mom to help them experience life and instead, some days, I have kids who find my phone on the floor and make sure I have it with me because they see how often it’s attached to my hand.
Ouch.
So I’m going to try to find a way to set my phone aside and be with my kids more. Not just be within eyesight, but be with them as they crush Cheerios into my carpet and smear mashed potatoes on our walls. In 20 years I might be rich and famous (a girl can dream, right?) or I might just be an average woman approaching retirement age. Regardless of the outcome, I want my children to need me then the way they need me now and I hope I respond just as quickly at both intervals in time.
And, if you listened to Wednesday’s show, you know I shot off an angry email to Luke Tuesday night and he was extremely gracious in his reply to me. I just want the 12 of you that read this blog to know that there’s no animosity between us. Sometimes the neighbor kid just has a bad day and takes it out on the other neighbor by only mowing half of their lawn.
