TBTL WITH LUKE BURBANK

Arrested Disappointment

Everyone’s favorite show is back. I love Arrested Development. I was one on of those people that actually watched this show on television, (bragging) which was so long ago that I was in high school at the time. I was never pulling for it to come back , but when it was confirmed
I did get excited. I didn’t think it could possibly be as good as it was before, but I still thought it would be better than most sitcoms. Now that I’ve seen it, and I know this is going to catch some people off guard, I like it.

I agree with a lot of the problems Luke and Andrew bring up. The amount of narration in the first few episodes is insane. It makes you think Ron Howard, one of the most powerful men in show business, was just bored and looking for more to do. The first episode, which stars Michael, is so sad and weird that I thought it was directed by Todd Solondz. There aren’t nearly as many standalone jokes as there used to be, and it definitely suffers from separating everyone out. But I think there’s still plenty to like.

I’m about 8 in, and around episode 4 was when the new stuff they introduced finally started to loop back around and be funny. Luke and Andrew said they were in dire need of a GOB episode, and it is easily the funniest I’ve seen so far. So maybe that will shift their opinion a bit. But I was genuinely shocked by how much they dislike these new episodes, and I guess most people agree. I don’t think it reaches the heights of the original but I’m definitely enjoying it. I’d love to know what the rest of the tens think, hopefully one of you are on my side.

New York Times columnist David Carr died on Thursday night. The guys did a great job eulogizing him and there's little praise I could add.

Harper “Buddy” Lee: You Can’t Bust Her!

I spent a blog "week off" mourning the Sea-Yuks loss but I was still listening to the show. There are so many issues it feels like time for my first USA Today/Larry King style post.

Touched “a” Verve… or “The” Verve?

On the morning of January 23rd, 2006 my phone rang while I was eating breakfast. I had a sore throat so my "hello" was weak and hoarse.
