Let's Eat: Best pizza in Seattle
on August 30, 2012 @ 9:53 am (Updated: 10:51 am - 10/10/12 )Pizza can come in a box or be accompanied by fancy linens at a fine dining establishment. The vast range of pizza types means there's just more to love, says Let's Eat host Terry Jaymes.
"Eating something that is delivered to the house that is greasy pepperoni, and just fast and cheap, I'm just as happy with that as I am some sort of designer pizza."
This week, Terry and co-host, Seattle Times restaurant reviewer Providence Cicero, consider Seattle's best pizza. From out-of-the-box to fancy fork fare, here are a few of their favorites:
Serious Pie calls itself "a pizzeria with a bread-baker's soul."
Terry says the dough is some of the best he's ever had. The olive oil and sea salt around it's edges puts it over the top, he says.
Salads at Serious Pie are a high point for Cicero, she calls the salad offerings "fabulous." She also says the toppings on pies at the Tom Douglas restaurant are always inventive.
This Ethan Stowell joint keeps things classic, which is something Terry appreciates.
"Everybody is trying to out-fancy each other by their toppings and it wears me out," says Terry. "You can still get the great pepperoni over there."
"Ballard Pizza is great," says Providence. "You can buy it by the slice. You can fold it up and eat it [...] It's a great, great pizza."
Delancey is the wood-fire pizza project of Brandon Pettit and Molly Wizenberg, and Providence is definitely a fan.
"When they opened a couple of years ago, I think they set a new standard in Seattle," says Providence. "The dough that they use, the crust, it's got a marvelous pliancy to it, and their salads are always so fresh."
For those in south Seattle, Providence recommends Bar del Corso on Beacon Hill. It has a chalkboard menu that is seasonal and always changing.
From the counter seats, you can watch the chefs in action at this neighborhood restaurant and bar, but Providence warns it will make you want to eat everything on the menu.
"It's like 'Oh I've got to have a pizza, but I want that too.'"
Let's Eat can be heard on Saturdays at 4 p.m. and Sundays at noon. Available anytime ON DEMAND at MyNorthwest.com.
Whether it's floating on Green Lake, eating shrimp tacos at Agua Verde, or taking weekend drives out to the Cascades, she loves to enjoy the Pacific Northwest lifestyle as much as humanly possible.
