If you haven't seen it, Kevin Spacey stars as Francis Underwood, the minority whip in congress who campaigns hard for a Presidential candidate and was promised the position of Secretary of State in return. When the candidate wins he immediately revokes that promise. Honestly I'm surprised if you didn't fall asleep when you read "Francis Underwood."
Also Robin Wright stars as his wife, or maybe it's a cardboard cutout of Robin Wright, I'm not sure. Also Kate Mara is in it, who despite all evidence to the contrary is apparently Rooney Mara's sister. She plays a an ambitious journalist and a terrible person. Pretty much everyone on the show is a terrible person.
To be honest none of that would bother me so much if it weren't for the fact that Spacey is constantly breaking the fourth wall to talk directly to the audience. His character is supposed to be terrifying but it doesn't work when he keeps acting like Ferris Bueller. I keep waiting for him to say that if you stuck a lump of coal in Robin Wright's ass, in 2 weeks you'd have a diamond.
I'm a big Fincher fan but I just can't get into it and I can't find anyone who agrees with me. A lot of people are binge watching it but I wanted to purge after one episode (ZING!). Am I insane? Is there anything that is universally loved that you cannot stand?
