Oscar Talk!

Jen "Flash" Andrews and Tom Tagney are here to talk Oscar movies, none of which Luke has seen. I tend to agree more with Tom's opinions but I was so happy to hear Jen say that Leonardo DiCaprio in Django Unchained was the best performance of the year. I've never really felt one way or the other about him but in Django he was absolutely mesmerizing.

The phrenology scene they discussed was so good. During the take used in the movie DiCaprio slams his fist on the table and accidentally smashes a glass. He legitimately cut his hand while filming and wiped away his real blood and kept going. I know it has no chance of winning but it was my favorite movie of the year.

I have to say there were certainly a lot of snubs this year. DiCaprio for Supporting Actor is an obvious one but here are some more that I found absolutely outrageous.

Best Supporting Actress: Melissa McCarthy - She was the only part of This Is 40 that didn't make me want to jump off a bridge.

Best Actress: Kristen Stewart - Sorry guys, but I'm a total Twi-hard. As I write this I'm just now realizing how disgusting "Twi-hard" sounds.

Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis - I know he was nominated but honestly he should have been nominated twice.

Best Director: Martin Scorsese - Are we sure he didn't make a movie this year?

Best Picture: Die Hard - In 1989 Rain Man won this award over the greatest film ever made. I think it's time we corrected that error.

These are just my opinions, I'm sure you have your own. Listen to Tom and Jen's here.

Die Hard: The Hardest Dying of all the Die Hards
I regret that I was alive for 26 years before ever seeing Die Hard. I saw Rain Man DECADES ago and can only imagine how my life would have been different if Die Hard had won that Oscar. Heck, maybe there wouldn't have been so many terrible sequels. Thanks for the blogging, Jake!
