I'd like to immediately apologize for that title. On Monday's show Luke and Andrew are back to discuss a tweet by The Onion calling 9-year-old Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis an unmentionable word. Luke quoted this tweet where I expressed my views on the subject:
"The Onion thing is only hurtful if the little girl finds out, so thankfully nobody is talking about it."
The Onion's joke in and of itself is pretty basic. They implied that somebody obviously sweet and innocent was awful. They saw something red and said it was blue. As Andrew says, anyone familiar with The Onion knows that the writers don't have any malicious feelings about Wallis.
The problem is a 9-year-old has no way to process or understand that and they probably just ruined the most magical evening of a young girl's life. So despite the intention, I think the tweet is still incredibly cruel. At the very least they owe her a new doggy purse to make up for it.
Also on the show they discuss horsemeat, free beef with your tires and Andrew proves he's an old person by saying he has "The Family Guy" on his "TiVo."

That is all.
Except, I don't think the Onion should worry about using an offensive word because the 9 year old subject might hear it. I think they should worry about using an offensive word because it's offensive. Not a big fan of the c-word myself. But I'm not outraged. That horse has left the barn.
