Mort! His name is Mort!

There was a lot of talk about music on Wed-nes-day’s show. A lot of talk. Pretty much the whole show. What makes a good song, what makes a bad song, what Police songs are actually okay. (Is it The Police or just Police? Sharp shoot me!) Here’s my two cents that no one cares about.

For me, it probably comes as no surprise that the first thing that makes me dig a song is the lyrics. I love good stories which, much to the chagrin of one Luke Burbank, is why I dig country music—especially the country music of the 80s and early to mid-90s. I love a good story and it doesn’t get much better than The Thunder Rolls or Fancy in my opinion. Looking at that sentence I realize that those are two really depressing songs so maybe they’re not the best to reference. My bad.

But anyways. Lyrics first. Then the music. If I can groove to it around the house or be bop around to the guitar or piano while doing the dishes, I’m a happy camper. That’s why I love fun female 80s pop like I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Let’s Hear it for the Boy. Those are awesome, let go of your cares and worries songs.
Sometimes both the music and lyrics jive together and make just a perfect song for me much like Song for You by James Taylor or Closer to Fine by Indigo Girls. Both parts of the song just make me feel good about myself. One could even say they make me happy of myself.

So that’s what I have to say to the 8 of you that read this. I’ll try to get a blog up Friday about the ole TBTL CSM SotS shindig. Hope to see you there!

New York Times columnist David Carr died on Thursday night. The guys did a great job eulogizing him and there's little praise I could add.

Harper “Buddy” Lee: You Can’t Bust Her!

I spent a blog "week off" mourning the Sea-Yuks loss but I was still listening to the show. There are so many issues it feels like time for my first USA Today/Larry King style post.

Touched “a” Verve… or “The” Verve?

On the morning of January 23rd, 2006 my phone rang while I was eating breakfast. I had a sore throat so my "hello" was weak and hoarse.
