Here's the basic idea...you're stuck at home, it's too cold and miserable to attempt to go outside...so embrace it. You're taking a snow day.
Step #1: If you're a good little ten, you have champagne on hand, so pop the cork.
Step #2: Watch an old movie. (I recommend "The Philadelphia Story", but sometimes I rotate in "Boys Town", "Roman Holiday" or "The Thin Man")
Step #3: Eat whatever is in your house. This is the fun creative part. (I once folded chocolate chips into slices of Wonder bread and called it "Ballard croissant"). You'll be amazed at the meal you create using the last 4 kalamata olives, tomato paste, a little cream and an egg...
Step #4: Put on a soft, boozy album and curl up for an afternoon nap
Step #5: Go outside and walk around your block for 10 minutes, marveling at the snow and icicles.
Step #6: Retreat inside. Proud of the exercise you've done, make a hot toddy (I like a little hot cocoa with Baileys) and start plowing through your DVR.
Step #7: Fall asleep without shame or remorse. It was a good day.

Thanks, Jen!!! I think i'm going to do my best to follow this itinerary. I'm unfortunately compelled to leave my house for a little while but other than that i think i'll do what i can. For creative food, i'm thinking of something involving turkey, chocolate, peanuts and chamomile tea....
Unfortunately, there is no snow day for us here in the San Francisco Bay Area, but fortunately, it is incredibly beautiful.
Your suggestion about "The Philadelphia Story" is spot on. That is possibly the greatest movie of all time.
Portland totally failed on producing a snow day for us this year, so can I have a pretend snow day instead? I even promise to take a walk in the rain and admire the dripping leaves and mud puddles. Mostly, I just want to drink champagne all day, watch old movies and eat delicious, random concoctions. Oh, and not feel guilty at the end of it.
No electricity means: You can't find the champagne. Can't watch movies. Can't find the food in the dark. No way to play an album. No hot toddy or VCR. What's left? #'s 5 & 7. Go outside and fall asleep.
