Yes, This Happened And Yes, The Guy Is A TBTL Listener. Today We Talk To Him.
Gabe is a TBTL listener in Philly. This is Gabe's actual back. We'll get the entire story today on TBTL.
-- Luke Burbank
ps, time-permitting, we might even get a chance to talk about Gabe's other great love, his man bun(!)

Seattle tens Ryan and Melissa are moving to Philly in 2 weeks and I'm glad they'll have good company. Take care of them for us, Gabe. Happy Birthday, Ryan!
Philly has a lively crop of Tens: https://www.facebook.com/groups/308128545864881/
1000th episode listening party was at my house. We were CRUSHED that we weren't called. ;^P
Curiously, most of the non-US (Russian, Brazilian, Spanish) bartenders who reposted TotC's Fb posting of it called it a Sazerac. And, I mean, I don't put ice in the glass in a Sazerac, and I do wash the glass with absinthe, but the bitters bottle isn't labeled "Angostura" or "aromatic bitters", so I guess I understand the confusion.
In all of this (blogpost, Fb, TBTL interview) I've neglected to mention that one of the reasons I chose this particular drink is that I travel a lot for work (210 days in 2011), and the old fashioned is a drink you can reliably make in any hotel room, provided you've got a 3 oz bottle in which to carry bitters. You can get decent whiskey anywhere, and the hotel's coffee service provides the sugar and a stirring implement.
... (but, you know, the interviewer drives the interview, not the interviewee; or should):
- Luke: a friend of mine, MK, wants to know if you can introduce her to Ira Glass. She curses a lot too, and she thinks they would be friends.
- Another friend of mine, Sam Dingman, flipped his... stuff when he saw this post. He's an NY Ten, and does some podcast things himself that Tens may care to add to their rotation: http://samdingman.tumblr.com/
- Sandy from Philly points out that she was the first Philly Ten whose naked back appeared on tbtl.net: http://mynorthwest.com/78/526537/The-tens-are-having-quite-a-weekend -- we promise, we do usually wear shirts in Philly.
- In the man-bun discussion, I completely forgot to point out that I'm the same Gabe from Philly from the online dating episode. So, um, I'm not really having trouble finding women who put up with it.
Ignore the haters Gabe- the internet is where human decency goes to die. I think your tattoo is neato and obviously means a lot to you. And I thought you seemed lovely in your interview. Philly is a great town- have lots of family there and can't wait to visit again!
To get a tatoo that's a cross between the "Old Fashioned Recipe" and Sean's "Mixtape" tatoo... It would be a couple of booze bottles, but with blank labels so that I could use a sharpie to write in whatever I'm currently drinking!
I do not, nor have I ever, get paid to make drinks. I'm just friends with a lot of people who do. (The episode just went past in my "Recent Podcasts" playlist, and I realize that I elided the words "have friends who work at" or "like drinks in the style of" Death & Co, Dram, the Franklin, and the Farmer's Cabinet. I am no where near good enough or fast enough to work at any of those places.)
I like that Gabe is so calm and friendly with Luke; like they are old time friends. If I ever meet Luke, Jen or Sean again I hope I can be cool like this. :)
I know this is off topic but every time I listen to Luke talk about his agent mort I get more and more of a feeling that the mort character is a schick. Am I way off base here or have I been just the most clueless 10 ever?
I've been listening to TBTL for half a year now and I am so embarrassed that I cannot figure out on my own if this guy is real or not.... I keep thinking "there's noooo way" and then there will be one little line that makes me jump back onto the fence.
