Notes on Friday's Show

Whipped Cream

If you listened to Friday's show, a couple of notes:

First of all, no refunds. Sorry.

Secondly, you might have heard Luke mention an interview with Herb Alpert from the public radio show Studio 360. I listened to the whole thing this weekend, and it's really good. You can listen to it here.

Speaking of Herb Alpert, here's that Carpenters video I am all gaga over, for some reason. (Stick with it; I swear it's not just a slide show.)

This is Luke's favorite Aerosmith song. As Steven Tyler might say, it's F-I-N-E fine.

Here's the best Aerosmith song to listen to if you need to drive around Ohio country roads in your minivan all afternoon (Don't judge me. How did you spend your high school summers?)

    A&M = Alpert & Moss
I had a friend in my cabin in summer music camp (Interlochen, in case there are some NMC'ers here?) back in the 1980s named Harrison. He was from LA, was pretty laid back and a nice guy. He knew I was going to attend USC for music school in the fall and invited me to hang out with his family in LA if I wanted. I never took him up on it. Turned out his full name was Harrison MOSS, as in his dad is the Mr. Moss of A&M. And THAT'S why I am not a senior VP at A&M by now....never knew a schmoozing opportunity, even if it hit me squarely between the eyes.

    The Carpenters
Awesome. I had forgotten how much I like the Carpenters. They were a sound track of my generation and Karen had one of the great voices of all time. I'd also forgetten that she was a drummer. It was always quite ahead of the time to see here on The Somthers Brothers, or Dick Cavett, or somewhere tapping the skins, though mostly they just wanted to spoon her into a low cut gown and stick her out front with a mike stand. And I make no appologies for declaring the greatest Aerosmith song to be Walk This Way. Yeah, I know, but you know it is. C'mon Son!

    Carpenters
I know she had an ultra good voice - but I just can't get into The Carpenters no matter how hard I try - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass however...Now THAT's a big RAWR! I just recently watched Mary & Max and Bert Kaempfert's "Swingin' Safari" got me going on down a rabbit hole of all of that genre - which I highly recommend trying some time. It's lots of fun - it's like cotton candy for your ears. On a completely unrelated note::: I just saw that The Black Donnellys is on Netflix instant!!! Check that out - it's a one of those great shows that died a bit too early.

    Interview with Herb Albert
The one and only Alec Baldwin also recently interviewed Herb Albert on his podcast, Here's The Thing. Definitely worth a listen.

Like, I wouldn't mind Luke, like, cursing, if he, like, cut down on the number of "likes" he, like, said. Just, like, saying.

    Herb Alpert Cover
I'm surprised no one has commented yet on the very happy, but in some cases very confusing tingly feelings evoked by looking at this album cover when a small child. Many people I know over 40 remember this album very well from their parents' collection. And most of them, men and women alike, spent hours mesmerized by it. It is iconic for that time period.
