Song of the Summer: The Playlist

SOTS SUMMER

We are but a mere few days away from the start of official voting in this year’s TBTL Song of the Summer contest. Tens of listeners sent us literally 3.76 zillion songs over the past month or so. But only one shall be crowned SOTS!

Before you cast your vote, though, don’t you think you should spend some time with these songs? Yes, you should. That’s why I’ve posted the top 40 SOTS submissions here. That's why listener Angie (an IndyTEN!) put together this Spotify playlist for us.

And remember: When you’re at your next barbeque, and the guy behind the grill asks you, "Hey, man, what are we listening to?", you need to hold your head up high, look him in the eye and say, "I’m not sure. A friend gave it to me. Do you like it okay?"

I love you guys, but how is it possibly legal to give away 40 songs? As someone who works in the music industry, I am very disappointed that you are sharing music in this manner.

I created a Spotify playlist for the TBTL Song of the Summer if anyone has Spotify and does not want to download the playlist. My computer is too old to download Spotify, and I can't get the app on my phone for reasons that are too boring to explain. Is there any way a list of the songs can be made/posted so I can listen to them on the Hype Machine or another music streaming website?

Hey, I made a Grooveshark playlist you should be able to play from any computer. http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/TBTL+Song+Of+The+Summer/74444049 All the songs are there except The White Wires's "Let's Go to the Beach" was unavailable so I put in a placeholder song "Stayed Up Late" by the same band.

I got the zip file and let me just say that I'm glad I got to hear all 40, but I wouldn't have bought all 40. However, because of the SOTS contest, I've already bought the Lumineers, Alabama Shakes, and Monsters & Men whole albums. I'm not crying for Justin Beeber, Jack White, and Katy Perry. The other artists, I haven't gotten to know, yet, but there may be a few more albums bought down the road. Thank you for making a modern day mix tape for us, the 10s of listeners. No, I don't regret taping music off the radio when I was 10 and I don't regret getting your magic zip file before it was taken down.

I thought I was decided on my summer song until I listened to this straight through at work today. If you put these all against each other, we are going to have an upbeat as hell final-4. Looking forward to the bracketology. I'm ready to start the underground betting as long as we don't get any more legal scholars on the blog.

I hope we all learnt a valuable lesson here. I sure did...check TBTL.net much more frequently since Andrew's link was taken down by the time I saw this blog post! :-( ;-) Thanks for the Spotify playlist but as is typical, not available in my country. I'm sure I can dig them all up some way.
