Song of the Summer: Round Two!

Bracket-round-2

The votes are in and the winners have been chosen! We now know who survived round one of this year's Song of the Summer contest. The biggest news from round one may be the upset of Grimes over Gotye. You can also say goodbye to Justin Bieber, Neon Trees and - sadly - the Lumineers.

check out all the results above, and vote on the round two matchups here.

It appears that I am as good at predicting summer songs as I am at predicting college basketball.
Current score: 5/8. Come on, Carly Rae! http://i.imgur.com/4euyo.png

Am I the only one who voted for Gotye?
Seriously, I like that song. I think Luke's pooh-pooh-ing (and horribly incorrect pronunciation) influenced the vote. Anyway, I'll take my 5/8 for the first round.

You are not alone. I first heard the song on TBTL and I liked it. I understand the critique of the lyrics- why should someone you're no longer in a relationship with be forced to keep you in their life? I just ignore my objections to the lyrics and enjoy the music. I'm also 5/8. I'm starting to OD on Call Me Maybe. I'm all in on the Fun song.

    Lumineers and Neon Trees
I'm 6/8. I like the Lumineers song but - except the chorus - the lyrics are terrible. Examples: "I've been sleeping here instead / I've been sleeping in my bed / I've been sleeping in my bed" and "I don't know where I belong / I don't know where I went wrong / But I can write a song" it's like a fifth grader wrote it. The chorus is real catchy though. The Neon Trees song is really good too but I only started to like it after watching the music video.

    Gotye
@Jen...I voted for Gotye, too, but I agree with the general feeling on the sTens page that the Gotye song is more the song of spring than it is the song of the summer. I'm fine with Grimes winning that one, though I do think the words to "Oblivion" are just weird as can be. @slowLoris...I guess the words to "Ho Hey" are pretty stupid, but I still love that song so much. To me, I already have about 12 of these that are my songs of the summer that I will listen to over and over again, so it's a total win for me no matter who ends up being the ultimate victor.

Please tell me that someone else saw this last night: http://www.hulu.com/watch/374408 Start at 5:09 'Well, the United States' Supreme Court, in a hotly contested 5-4 decision has declared that Carly Rae Jepson's "Call me Maybe" is the song of the summer. Also, no health care.'

    This was hard... And fun!
So many good songs, it's hard to vote against one when I like them both! But it's fun, too. I am really enjoying this voting, and then the show where the results are revealed... The commentary by Luke, Andrew, and Jen is excellent.

    Alabama Shakes vs. Best Coast
I was 7/8 in the first round, narrowly choosing Neon Trees over Islands mostly out of a sense of indifference. This one is killing me. Sorry Best Coast, I like your second album even better than your first but I like the Alabama Shakes just a tiny bit better than you.
