I don't know how these Poles are getting so far in this tournament. I respect their tenacity, their underdoggishness, but their song is just not up to snuff. Come on, guys! What the heck is going on here? Is it the nation of Poland propelling these jokers through the ranks? If that's the case, I'm worried the Polish consulate might be getting a nasty letter in the near future. But if it's local TBTL listeners, the true blue Americans, voting for these guys, I don't even know what to say. All I'm hoping is that our hometown heroes, the Alabama Shakes, claim the spot in the finals that is rightfully theirs.
Hey, dummy. This is a song contest, not a world war. I understand you may not like the song and I respect that, but there's no reason to get xenophobic. We have the right to vote for our guys, just as you have the right to vote for your local heores. We're not gaming the system, we're not cheating, we're just supporting our favorite band.
The Polish song got so far because two people who love the band (Sara & I) wanted people in the US to discover it. All we've gained from it is the satisfaction of helping to promote awesome music and awesome imaginary radio around the world. Thanks to this, thousands of people in the US heard of Muzyka Końca Lata, and thousands of people in my country heard of TBTL.
So, before you get up in arms and xenophobic about the Poles getting far in the contest, think about what YOU have done to help your favorite podcast and your favorite band.
And Alabama Shakes is a great band, you should be proud of them. Good luck in the contest.
i must be getting really old. but is that fun song really about zombies ? it's a fun video but not as catchy as the other song (although man is the other song d u m b )
i do like alabama shakes though. girl's got her BELT out.
Planet3...if We are Young was about zombies, it would FINALLY make sense! Good Call. Maybe there IS hope for that song...
And Jarek, excellent usage of the the Hey Dummy catchphrase. +1 my friend.
Guess who's 100% on this last round...this guy! So that puts me at 11 out of 12. So I guess when I say Dokad is the real deal and the true TBTL SOTS, then best be listenin'
Mike, it's ok not to care for the Muzyka Końca Lata song (even though you're wrong)...Alabama Shakes is a real good jam and any other year they would get my vote. But not this year my friend. Not this year. Na zdrowie Muzyka Końca Lata! They drink your milkshake!
And although We Are Young is catchy as all get out...I just can't get around the lyrics...ugh...would anybody want to hang out with this group of people at a bar? Blech! It's going to be a real Davey & Goliath battle between that bully Carly Rae and those plucky kids in Poland for the finals.
http://i.imgur.com/xjH8K.png I was getting all excited about my 9/12, now I may have to change the mood in my graffic from David Caruso to that guy who dies before David Caruso says something over his corpse.
Luke was right, the Polish president must be voting for Muzyka Konca Lata. You've won this round Komorowski! It is a fun song, but I am hoping the Alabama Shakes can end their run.
@Ohio Mike
Now, I chose to read your post as some awesome sarcasm. But, this being the interwebs and all, we can't know what you were really thinking. Thus, Jarek's post.
last summer, mama Jen made it clear that any mean talk in the comments section would result in The Song of the Summer being taking away. Your zeal is great, but lets channel it into pulling for your favorites, not bringing others down.
@Jarek- awesome job dude. I'm totally with you. I think its possible Ohio Mike was just playing this over-the-top patriotic character that is popular to mock in the USA right now. I could be wrong. Until he lets us know, we can give him the benefit of the doubt, and you won't have to worry about xenophobia among the AmeriTens.
An AmeriTen here who loves Donkad! I've been voting for Muzyka Końca Lata pretty much every day!
Who cares if I can't adequately sing along? Half the world does that when singing songs with English lyrics. Ken Lee anyone? It's not very nice of Ohio Mike to assume that only individuals from Poland can appreciate music originating in Poland. Thank you Sara and Pan Jarek for sharing this awesome song! Music IS the universal language of mankind. Viva the Alabama Shakes! Viva Muzyka Końca Lata! Viva TBTL!
Jarek, I'm thrilled that you and TBTL found some way to swap favorite things across the ocean. Cheers to that! As yayyyates mentioned, my over-the-top patriotism was a bit of a put-on. I even voted Muzyka Konca Lata the first round. My main point, I guess, is that I will never hear Muzyka Konca Lata's songs playing on someone else's radio when I'm stuck at a red light, and no one I know will pump out the Polish jams at a barbecue. Alabama Shakes, based solely on its amount of jamness, more represents exactly what I think of when I think of "Song of the Summer." However! I'm sure Muzyka Konca Lata fills that role in over there in good ol' Poland. So carry on you Polish Tens. (Besides, I don't think anyone's going to be stopping the "Call Me Maybe" train.)
If Dokad wins, are the Poles going to donate to Northwest Harvest? :) This plucky little song is soo in the spirit of TBTL and our long glorious history of stuffing the ballot box! :)
Jarek,
If you will bring the phrase "Hey Dummy" to Poland, I will be so happy I won't know what to do. Also, I actually really love the song Dokad and try to sing along (it's not successful). It is NOT just the Polish folk who are voting for this song. Sure, it's a little dated, but that doesn't mean it's not good...every song draws from the past, and this one makes me super happy. Still, if it comes down to a Dokad vs. We Are Young finish, I'm voting for Fun.
