Song of the Summer 2012: We Have A Winner!

After weeks and weeks of nominating songs, voting for winners, and arguing about the results, we finally have the official winners of the TBTL 2012 Song of the Summer contest. Congrats to our polish friends Muzyka Konca Lata who won the hearts of TBTL voters with their song "Dokad".

Thanks, everyone, for voting. We had an impressive turnout at the polls this year. (Nope, that's not a "Poles" joke.)

The Polish song is upbeat and I just felt ill every time I heard that "We are Young" song, especially the affected, theatrical vocal at the beginning. Yuk. Forgettable...

Which, according to Bing Translate, is "This song is made of awesome." I'm so excited this one won; I can't understand a single word but I love Dokad. It's incredibly lovely that they won because Muzyka Końca Lata is actually a band that cared whether or not it did win. I love happy endings!

This year featured so many great songs. I love all of the top 16 except two (which I won't list, because Jen and Andrew loved both of them). I would have been happy with almost anything that won, but I feel extra happy that it's a scrappy little international song. We are a scrappy little group ourselves, so this makes sense.

Although I was pulling for Grimes, I'm glad Muzyka Końca Lata won! So much better than the Fun song - y'know, the one with the throwaway verses and then the power chorus which is the only thing that sells the song? SJB is right - Dokad is scrappy and so are we! Scrappy Rawr! eddy from HousTEN

This is TBTL for god's sake. If any other song but this one won it would be a tragedy of a mockery of a travesty of a mockery or however that goes. I think we all need to take a "taking this way too seriously" reality check here.

...on so many levels. Oh, and not just that I'm now 2 for 2 for SOTS since starting to listen to the show! This is an awesome song - prolly will make it on to a Wes Anderson soundtrack one of these days. See, the thing about SOTS is that it is TBTL's SOTS - it has to be a song that is like the 10s. A little cooler than most people realize - a hidden gem - a fun friend to hang out with. Dokad is all these things and is a perfect representation of what a summer party at a 10's house would be like. Gratulacje MKL!
