Seattle police confiscate six guns, drugs after shooting in park

Oct 16, 2017, 6:52 AM

On Friday, a man reported he had been shot in the hand while trying to buy drugs in Mineral Springs Park in North Seattle.

By the time officers arrived at the park, the gun-toting suspect who allegedly shot the man had fled.

Officers worked with the victim and were able to identify the 22-year-old suspect who is known to carry guns in the park while selling narcotics.

Detective Patrick Michaud says the North Precinct Anti-Crime Team was able to track down and arrest the 22-year-old suspect at North 105 Street and Aurora Avenue North Saturday afternoon on drug charges.

Officers searched the man’s car and confiscated three loaded firearms, a Glock 10mm, Smith & Wesson .45, and a Springfield .45, as well as 5.6 grams of heroin.

Officers also searched a nearby storage locker and confiscated an AK-47, AR-15, and a 22LR handgun.

Michaud says it is unlikely the shooting victim will be charged.

“We hope the people would feel comfortable coming forward if something happened to them that they wanted to report … even if they were doing something that they probably shouldn’t have. The violence in that initial crime is one of those things we would much rather focus on than somebody buying narcotics in a park.”

Officers booked the suspect into King County Jail.
