TCTI: Too Crazy Too Ignore

Let's see how the fiscal cliff talks are going

We have the President's spokesman drawing a line in the sand.

"He will not sign, under any circumstances, legislation that would keep rates where they are for the wealthiest Americans," said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

We have Republican John Boehner's reaction, "I've got to tell you, I'm disappointed."

And we have Democrat Harry Reid's reaction to his reaction, "I don't understand his brain."

I'd say it's going well.

It makes for great drama. In great drama you need clearly defined characters, and intense conflict.

Then, right before the climax, a plot twist, in which the villain, in this case Grover Norquist, brings up something out of the blue, like refusing to let the President raise the debt limit for another year.

"They can give him debt ceiling increases once a month," said Norquist. "Here's your allowance, come back next month if you've behaved."

Norquist is proposing that the debt ceiling be increased month by month?

"Monthly if he [the President] is good," responded Norquist. "Weekly if he's bad."

Treating the President as if he were a petulant teenager refusing to do his chores - I'm sure that kind of thing goes over well at the White House.

"Asking that a political price be paid to ensure that the United States of America pays its bills and does not default for the first time in its history is deeply irresponsible," said Carney.

So like I say it's going GREAT.

Meanwhile, White House reporters learned that the lunch between the President and Mitt Romney turned out to be just that. Lunch.

So that's your cliff update. Bottom, line -- the current plan is for the Treasury to buy a Powerball ticket as soon as the jackpot gets over $4 trillion.

Duh, does anybody see the irony in these "fiscal cliff" negotiations?

Neither side has any real motivation to negotiate because if *nothing* is agreed upon both sides already get something they want (in exchange for something they don't want).

The D's get what they want, (a tax increase), in exchange for something they don't want (draconian cuts to federal programs).

The R's get what they want, (draconian cuts to federal programs), in exchange for something they don't want (a tax increase).

Cue 7 dwarfs. Amazingly, they look like the POTUS, the VP, the speaker and minority leader of the House, the majority and minority leaders of the Senate, and some guy named "Grover" pushing a wheelbarrow at the back of the whole parade. Waving their "Miway or the Hiway" banners high, they march in lock step and sing "Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off the cliff we go!"

Chuck, we might have a chance if we had all 7 dwarfs.

Why are these republicans so stupid as to let this NO-OFFICE-TWIT have so much power over all these ELECTED officials? Why do they keep signing this pledge when they know it will come back to bite them? Are they so hard-up for money, that they sell their political souls to the devil?

despite the Democrat half of the country insisting they must be so. Nor are the Democrats stupid, contrary to the opinions expressed by people known to vote Republican.

The next few weeks will be an exercise in political absurdity. We are going over the cliff, and both sides know it. As far as all of our elected officials and representatives are concerned, the most important question remains unanswered; "How do best posture to blame the *other side* when we go over the fiscal cliff?"

At this point, it's down a a matter of maneuvering to assign blame- not to craft a compromise solution.

I disagree. The GOP is the party of stupid, the democrats are the party of evil. As citizens we're stuck between stupid and evil...not an enviable place to be.

I don't think it is so bad going off the cliff.
If we ever are going to balance the budget it will take both tax hikes and spending cuts to do it. Might as well get started. If we could ever stop picking fights and leave the rest of the world to solve their own problems, our budget woes just might fix itself. Why do we have to solve the world's problems? We are broke!

And borrowing money at interest, increasing our debt, devaluing our currency, and showering corporations with stimulus is... responsible?(!) -whiskey tango foxtrot!-

News flash... R's and D's (as parties) are on the same team, and it's not ours.

Let him have it. He won.
When his voters start to suffer too then they might realize the error of their vote and we can start turning this Titanic mess around. Then again, they might be happy with a shiny new entitlement so that they don't have to suffer and can live in relative ease until the makers finally leave or run out of money to support them. For many Obama voters a roof, some food, a TV, a cell phone and "free" healthcare is enough. For regular Americans it's something we work to pay for and strive to have a bigger house, better food, a more advanced TV and a healthcare plan we can afford that actually means care instead of just "coverage." And we want to retain our dignity by paying our own way.
