Movement on the gun issue

Look at this gun control bill in the New York legislature: It expands the ban on assault weapons to include certain handguns and shotguns. It requires mental health professionals to report any patient likely to harm themselves or others, so that the cops can confiscate that patient's firearms.

It would also hold gun owners to certain standards for storing their weapons if they live with someone who can't legally touch them.

New York would also ban any gun magazine that can hold over 7 rounds, require background checks, for most private gun sales, to buy ammo, and it alert the cops if you buy a large number of weapons. It would create a statewide database of gun licenses - which the news media would not have access to - and increase penalties for gun crimes.

Wow. How did that happen?

As for the chances of anything like that on the national level ...

The latest Pew research poll finds across the board majorities among Democrats, Republicans, Independents, men and women - and I'm talking well about 80 percent in most cases - supporting two things: extending background checks to gun shows and private sales, and preventing people with mental illness from buying guns.

With numbers like that, if Congress can't figure out a way to address at least those two issues, Democracy is a failure, and we might as well go back to a monarchy.

Of course we won't because that's why the Second Amendment was passed - to protect us from tyranny by arming people like James Yeager.

"I am not letting my country be ruled by a dictator. I'm not letting anybody take my guns. If it goes one inch further, I'm going to start killing people."

James Yeager is a Tennessee firearms instructor, explaining what he'd do if the President signed an executive order restricting guns. He later said he'd let his emotions get the best of him. But the Tennessee authorities suspended his concealed carry permit anyway. He also might want to avoid New York.

    Last point.
In this state, we just legalized a drug because it was hard to enforce marijuana laws, we were locking up people for possessing it, and we found a good way to earn tax dollars. I would expect the price of marijuana to go way down as it becomes available legally. e.g. not many people make their own alcohol as they can easily buy it. NOW - why would we do the same thing in reverse with certain types of guns? Banning most types (let's be honest it won't stop with one type) of guns will increase enforcement requirements on an already taxed police force, drive the illegal trade and theft of such weapons and may acutally increase the deaths by such guns. Some will argue that guns kill more than marijuana...I would argue that there were more people killed during maraijuna/drug deals than you think.

Listening to Dave and Luke talk as experts on this is....
Painful. They obviously know very little about firearms. They may as well be talking about the wiring harness for the space shuttle. Lets get to to real issue(s) instead of trying to take away guns from law abiding citizens. What are we going to do about the criminals who have guns illegally? What are we going to do about felons with guns? What are we going to do about gang members who have guns? What about people with mental health issues? Passing more laws is simply not going to address the problems! And, likely not even going to "save one more life".

    Yep
Pretty painful listening to these two debate an issue that they know nothing about. Luke's barely-contained condescension towards gun owners is especially offputting. I especially enjoyed his quip that NY's reduction from 10 to 7 maximum rounds per magazine means nothing, and that this restriction is anything rooted in any sort of common sense or reason - it's not, it's completely arbitrary. They acted like this law only affects evil "assault weapons," when it actually affects EVERYTHING. It's the largest, most overreaching feature ban ever put into place in any US state. I generally enjoy the show, but I want to turn off the radio when they discuss this subject.

    Ok, done
I'm not a huge NRA fan. They, like my union send me too much junkmail telling me who to vote for but throwing a few extra bucks in the hat makes me feel good.

New York will now now be crime free
What a relief, now criminals will be free to do whatever they already do and the law-abiding citizen is can only use a slingshot. Except for the one off of mental case, how many mass shootings are we going to stop based on this law? Probably none. How is a database going to stop someone with a legal right to own a weapon from shooting anyone? I think the NRA is right as much as the liberals hate to admit it. If you don't have someone who can actively stop an attacker, you can;t guarantee that it will happen any other way. Look at the government facilities in DC. You can't own a gun in DC, so why do they need any protection? BECAUSE A LAW CAN'T STOP A SHOOTER...

So it is no longer legal to have a clip that holds more than 7 rounds.
How many gangers have obeyed this "law" and turned in their "High" capacity mags? I will bet you Parrots that you can count them on ONE FINGER!

    Guess which one!!!!

IF he isn't able to acquire a gun! Get it?

    So..
In order to achieve that, you would have to A) completely eliminate the second amendment and confiscate all some 300 million privately-owned firearms in the US, which is blatantly unconstitutional and would spark massive civil unrest in an already fragile nation, OR B) eliminate a black market for illegally smuggled/stolen firearms, and pray that it will somehow beat out all odds and be the success story that the war on drugs never was. What's your plan?

The brilliance of this is simply mind boggling. Why haven't we seen the error of our ways. Since the US has made it illegal to posses cocaine, marijuana, and to enter the US as an "Undocumented" immigrant and spent billions on enforcing the laws to preventing them from entering the US, I'm sure they will be just as effective in preventing criminals from importing and possessing illegal weapons with detachable magazines and all guns for that matter. I feel so much safer already.

My God! I agree with AJ!!
Once we take away guns, the evil will just be done in different ways. I'm actually surprised there aren't more IED's being used. But take away the guns, and an even more powerful and despicable means will be used. Americans are so gullible; to believe that taking the guns from law-abiding folks will end the violence. It just makes them more vulnerable. Maybe we should give the bad guys all of our valuables - that would stop a lot of the violence.....

Does anyone have any idea of how to get this through to a Left wing Parrot?
That is that all these politically motivated "Gun Controls" that the Dear Leader is attempting force upon us will not work.

Can any of you Parrots ever grasp the fact that law abiding Americans did not commit these crimes. People who should not have access to these guns did. IE Illegally! People who are using true Assault Weapons are criminals. Are you Parrots so programmed to think that they will simply turn in all their weapons? That punishing Americans will have any effect upon them? That most deaths that guns are used in are suicide.

Obama keeps pushing for the abolition of the Second Amendment will all but guarantee the defeat, the destruction, of the Liberal party and the regime in America.

So this could be a Win win for us Americans!

Obama should definitely order the confiscation of James Yeager's arsenal
But since he won't give them up without a fight I suggest hitting him and his stockpile with a smart bomb, which ought to make a great fireworks show.
