I guess if we were wondering how it might look when someone decides to act on selected quotes of Thomas Jefferson, we know now.

In his manifesto, ex-cop-turned avenger Christopher Dorner used that familiar Jefferson quote written in defense of periodic revolution: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

The same quote was on Timothy McVeigh's t-shirt in 1995 the day he bombed the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. But as with most people who invoke that quote, which was part of a long letter, they leave out the rest, which includes:

"Happy for us, that when we find our constitutions defective and insufficient to secure the happiness of our people, we can assemble with all the coolness of philosophers and set it to rights, while every other nation on earth must have recourse to arms ..."

In this case the "coolness of philosophers" was replaced by a heat of a long-standing grudge, and of course easy access to weapons. That's the really chilling part. Where he described an arsenal that included highly regulated Class III weapons such as silencers and short-barreled rifles, and said he bought them from Lock 'n Load - a Las Vegas gun store - without a background check. All they wanted was money and a signature.

Because he, at the time, was a law abiding citizen. The kind whose gun rights we all want to protect. You can't help but wonder - how many people are building up legal arsenals, and nursing deep resentments, all the while scrupulously obeying every law - until the day they don't?

    Apparently whatever color you want - to taint the Second Amendment (and Thomas Jefferson, as well? - that old slave sleeper?). ... OK - your 4th paragraph does add to the TJ quote, but that's not the point of your post today, is it. ...... It's anti-gun. As usual.

    But, Dave. Dorner is an ex cop. And regardless of any current or (in your dreams) future gun laws, he could get what he wanted anyway. Heck, he probably started building his arsenal while he still WAS a cop. ... Just the king of person who would be able to get whatever he wanted, no matter WHAT bans you .. or Dianne Feinstein .. or Barack Obama might impose of the rest of us poor peasants.

    Oh, and that first part of TJ's quote? Regardless of any tee shirts or manifestos, tyrants do not give up either their blood nor their power easily. Witness Syria today. Witness Ireland, 1916. Witness every people who have won their freedom in the last 250 years. ..... I really don't think the people of Syria should give it up just because of a Timothy McVeigh tee shirt.

    I found the manifesto from several post sources, and it's LONG and convoluted. And not exact;y easy to follow. ..... Let's just say that quoting Thomas Jefferson was NOT the center piece of his ramblings. ....... About as obscure a part as Hitler dolting on his dog. .. ans we all know that Blondie defined Hitler (???).

    Bad job, Dave. But any obscurity works if it furthers the cause of the progressive agenda.

    You believe that the world is inhabited mostly by RWNJs like yourself. Everyone posting on this blog HAS to be, like you, a RWNJ -- with the one exception of Lawn. Anything that doesn't conform to your RWNJ point of view MUST be posted by the same person. And you are wrong about that.

    If you had any sense of aesthetic, and you've read my posts over the years, it would be clear that Lawn and my writing styles have been, and are completely different.     I thought I'd check in and see what all the 'I need therapy now' guys were doing. Much to my delight, since the story was about a black guy, I saw that that depressing racist, Kersey, had a thought and posted it. Then he had another thought a few minutes later and posted IT. Then he had another one and posted IT. 10 'thoughts' so far. The only thing he is 'shedding light on' is the fact that he should be seeking a mental health evaluation. Pronto.

    I see that Fox let Little Dick Morris go yesterday. He (and Rove) so perfectly illustrate the derangement syndrome from which RWNJs suffer. Of course he predicted a Romney landslide in the last election. That and Rove's infamous 'it isn't over yet' meltdown showed just how absolutely confident RWNJs are in their reality -- even when it can be shown that their reality is false.

    So keep believing that anyone who calls you guys out for being RWNJs is the same person. You think that there can only be one person who thinks Kersey, for example, is a pathetic specimen. It is precisely this that makes you a RWNJ too.
