TCTI: Too Crazy Too Ignore

He says 15 years is enough

Everywhere you go in Cuba, you'll see billboards demanding that the United States "Free the Cuban Five." The Cuba Five include a Cuban national named Ramon Labanino who for 15 years now has been imprisoned in the U.S. for what amounts to spying.

He and four others were sent here by the Castro government in the 90's to gather information on radical Cuban-Americans who were plotting terrorist attacks on Cuba.

"From the Cuban perspective, the United States has either invaded or threatened to invade Cuba on many prior occasions."

In Miami, Labanino's attorney Bill Norris told me what his client did was really no different than what our own CIA has been doing in various countries since the 9-11 attack:

"There were a series of bomb explosions in Havana and at some other tourist attractions around Havana, that were being funded by the radical element of the Cuban-American population, here in Miami," said Norris.

I asked, so this is basically the Cuban government trying to protect itself from American-based terrorism from their point of view?

"Absolutely, and it's not just a question from their point of view - it's been pretty well documented."

To Cubans, the U.S. decision to arrest the five for trying to prevent terrorist attacks on their homeland looks completely hypocritical, especially in light of what we've been doing since 9-11.

Ramon Labanino has been transferred to a minimum security prison, but Norris says his client is not dangerous, and should be allowed to return home.

"Fifteen years in jail is long enough and the time has come to hold out the olive branch, let Ramon Labanino, my client, and his brothers, go home to their families."

Uh, Dave? What 'amounts to spying' usually IS spying.
When the president was just in Israel, he was bombarded with signs to free Jonathon Pollard, who is currently doing time for 'what amounts to spying' for Israel against the USA. ... And to his credit, Mr. Obama is not about to free Pollard, either.

As for Mr. Labanino's moral equivalency that HE was just protecting Cuba from American terrorists, I'm sure any Iranian spy caught in America could claim the same defense,

Billboards aside, I suspect both the Cuban government and Mr. Labanino know how the game is played. ... And a Seattle talk show guy is NOT about to change it.

    Yeah Dave; How dare you...
... Interject a fresh perspective on this site given your recent travels, and how dare you try to relate the struggles of a group who's fundimentals are drastically different from ours to ours! We can't see things as such!

I'm saving my vitriol and full bladder for the next swift headwind so I might join AJ's efforts and relieve myself into it along side him!

Ok Dave.. once again I'm confused
If a CIA agent in say Iran is caught.. he's killed.... elsewhere.. he's either imprisoned or killed... and we should simply release a spy or not prosecute them????

I say the punishment should fit the crime.
If they weren't out to hurt Americans 15 years is long enough. Countries make gestures all the time and this one seems like an easy one. I would like it if we forgave Cuba already.

    If Fidel wanted them back
He could have purchased a Clinton pardon. They are most likely disposable useful idiots who Castro can easily replace. Viva la Revolucion.

    Gaygirl - spies is spies.
Israel is supposed to be our friend, and we are still holding THEIR spy against us - Jonathon Pollard - and rightly so. ... And just how can you say they 'weren't out to hurt Americans.' ? The say-so of the Cuban government? ??? Remember, Francis Gary Powers' U@ flight was originally cover stories as 'off course'. And HE wasn't out to hurt Russians - at least not from 80,000 feet.

I'll be perfectly frank. I don't really care. I have enough causes
without taking on this one about 5 spies who knew better anyways, but I think 15 years is long enough IF they didn't hurt Americans. 15 years is a whole life, a whole generation, a whole lot of time. If they're of no threat, if they just want to live out the rest of their life in peace, then I'm okay with it. And I think they should let Jonathan go IF he didn't hurt Americans. Sometimes mercy makes you the better person.

You summed it up in a couple of nice posts.

I called the KIRO advertisers and told them if they removed their advertising dollars from the Dave Ross Show, I would stop purchasing their products. I would then tell 10 people, who would each tell 10 people.....ad infinitum. They listened to my rant.

I am going back into my bunker and work on my conspiracy theories.....please drop a hand grenade down the air shaft if you want to get my attention.

    AJ's problems solved
I can sum up AJ's condition with one line from his own post: "...we should all have a say in what we want to hear." Ya think? Two easy solutions: open your mind or cover your ears.

We should all have a say in what we hear. I agree.
Just like we should all have a say in what we eat.

I'm not a big fan of fish. Seldom order it. So, when I go out to dinner I don't make a bee line for the nearest seafood restaurant and then sit in the booth and b***ch about the menu. I sure don't call the local brewery and tell them I will never drink their beer again if they don't stop "supporting" seafood restaurants by selling it there.

I suggest AJ upgrade to one of the more modern radios. I've got one that has this nifty little feature. If I turn it on and I hear a discussion or music that I don't care for, I can tune in another frequency and hear something else instead! Imagine that. Due to the miracle of electronics, I have a say in what I hear. AJ should consider getting a similar radio. It might improve his listening experience.

    AJ and those attacking him....
you're obviously at an impasse, should probably agree to disagree... AJ has a point to an extent here folks... though i can't say which viewpoint Ross is coming from his opinions are often way out there... It's as if he's decided to live up to his description "Too crazy to ignore" ... in his rantings about the second amendment Ross twisted the verbage of our founding fathers on multiple occasions to suit his viewpoint. If you're looking for news, Ross is not the guy you want to listen to, that's for sure, and like AJ i understand the frustration that comes from "News" personalities that claim to be reporting news but are actually just spinning propaganda. I too hate the Fox News Network for this... as well as MSNBC... It infuriorates me that so many before have fought for the freedom of the press and this is what they've done with it.... pathetic... Anyways, I also see the point of view of others who feel like Ross shouldn't be censored or taken off the air because of his opinions... but please, even you should at least admit that somebody like him should not be delivering "News"... it's not right, not when fox does it, not when MSNBC does it and not when Dave Ross does it... deliver the facts ... keep your propaganda to yourselves.

yeah, well, the news can be gotten in any one of 1000 different outlets
And each outlet will tell the story differently and that's what makes America great. The danger comes in only listening to Fox News or only listening to MSNBC or only reading the Blaze or only reading the Huffington Post, pick up any newspaper and read a story and you will inevitably see that it's written in somebody's voice. A point? Maybe, but not a well made one or an articulate one. Dave Ross did not say he thought they should be released. He was "reporting" somebody's point of view. Only a lemming would go out and picket to have the 5 released. An intelligent person would do a little more research or read another story or as somebody who knows. As long as nobody is basing their politics on a small little article or a three minute segment on a low ratings show America should be okay. AJ is still an athhole.
