It’s not easy being Green Bay

If it’s any consolation – I think we’ve all had a Green Bay experience.
When you know you got this. You know it’s in the bag. You got the girl. You got the job. Your competition seems to be falling apart. You’re 15 minutes away from a stunning victory.
And then – the Universe goes crazy.
You have punters throwing touchdowns.
You have an on-side kick that actually works.
Your competition throws Hail Mary 2-point conversion and that works.
And now you’re tied, but then- they add 15 more minutes to the game, they flip a coin, you lose, the other team gets the ball, and the guy who missed two passes, and got picked off on decides to make the catch of his life.
– and BAM.
You’re done.
It happens to all of us. Not quite that bad … fortunately. But if it’s any consolation, what it means out here in Seattle is that for the next two weeks, all of us have to “Go Hawks” each other at the end of every personal interaction.
I was at a Shakespeare Play – the opening announcement says please turn off all cell phones and “Go Hawks.”
The grocery checker “that comes to $57, and Go Hawks.”
The city buses flash “Go Hawks” along with the route number.
You chase off the guy trying to hot wire your car – as he’s running away he says “Go Hawks!”
And the governor, at the end of his state of the state address, right after he announces he’s raising taxes, “Let’s get to work! ‘Go Hawks!'”
But that’s the price you pay.
Go Hawks!
