We can go to Pluto, but we can’t wash dishes

According to The Hill, a website which covers the inner-workings of Washington DC, the Obama Administration is now trying to cripple our dishwashers.
“The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers is accusing the Department of Energy of a politically-motivated drive to increase dishwasher efficiency,” The Hill reported.
The aim to to get dishwashers from using 6 gallons of water per load, down to only 3.1 gallons a load. But the Appliance Association says would be the end of dish washing as we know it. And they’ve tried to wash using only 3.1 gallons.
“The group’s head lobbyist brought DOE officials to his office recently to show them the results and released photos of it publicly this week and said the results were ‘disgusting,'” The Hill reported.
I’ve seen the pictures of the soiled dishes, and I wouldn’t show them to you even if I could, they’re so gross.
The American Appliance industry will fight the new standards because apparently it’s easier to land a dishwasher on Pluto than to design one that cleans a load of dishes with 3.1 gallons of water.
Except that a German company is already selling one.
“The main feature is that it can use, in this dishwasher, up to 13 place settings just using only 6 liters of water,” a spokesperson for the German dish washing company said.
Six liters of water is 1.6 gallons, about half the amount that the U.S. appliance industry says is impossible.
Germany is not alone. A company in Turkey also makes such a dishwasher.
“Now there’s the eco-smart 6 liter dishwasher, which uses just 6 liters of water to wash a full load,” a commercial for that dishwasher sates.
It is annoying that the government feels it has to regulate even dishwashers. But what’s even more annoying is to get beat on something so basic, by countries that have been nowhere near Pluto.
