Fremont Troll
June 20, 2008 @ 10:52 am (Updated: 10:23 am - 3/27/11 )The 18 foot tall troll, stuck under the north side of the Aurora Bridge (Hwy 99), won't eat you, but keeps a watchful eye, made of a hubcap or wheel cover, on the Fremont neighborhood.
Mostly the troll serves as an eclectic addition to Fremont and as a jungle gym for kids.
Artists, Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter, and Ross Whitehead, built the troll in 1990 for the Fremont Arts Council.
The troll's long fingers wrap around a concrete covered Volkswagen Beetle, which doesn't deter locals from zipping past on N. 36th St. The Beetle originally had a California license plate and was rumored to carry an Elvis time capsule.
